3 weeks late on the analysis. At least it confirms what most of us have been saying about personnel, and how it will be at least 2 years before the turnaround can be realistically achieved. I would be very surprised, if we make it to the playoffs let alone win a round.

Cap issues anyone?

I don't see the Saints' Will Smith as a fit in the new scheme, especially at his cap number but maybe the Saints will think he can play OLB.
I have no idea what the Saints think they have at OLB but the truth is neither team has what it takes to fulfill these two positions.

Great insight and background research!

He's going to get cut and something we probably won't be able to ever determine. It's just another opinion... we all have them. If I trusted everyone's elses and opinions over my own, I'd be a redundant whipping boy.

Edited:
I'd like to add while Gregg Williams was here, we ran plenty of 3-4 fronts with Smith playing end... not OLB. So to say he can't even be a rotational fit here(which I have stated... not full time), pretty much kills it.

I think we have the DE's in Jordan & Hicks

And the OLB's in Wilson & possibly Galette

We need to draft a pass rusher to put at OLB

Ryan will bring in many of his own players. Mostly role players that understand and fit his system, like the 5th and 6th LB, or the back-up NT/DE. These should come relatively cheap.

To start reducing our cap we need to jettison some high salaries (obviously) and we absolutely must start hitting on draft picks. They're cheap.

I wouldn't mind having a firesale on our veterans and acquiring anything we can get for them pick wise.

If all we can get for Ivory is a 7th, take it. If all we can get for Harper is a 5th, take it. Leave no options unexplored, except Brees of course.

Youth movement.

BTW: now you can see why Loomis was grabbing all these unknown players all year long and throwing people on IR left and right. They are basically the equivalant of 2013 late round picks and UDFA's. We just acquired them a year early.

After release / restructure of Vilma or Smith I could see us making a play for Anthony Spencer.

Other than him I don't see much on the Cowboys FA list beyond the 5th or 6th LB you stated.

Sorry, bad explanation. I didn't mean only Cowboy players. I'm assuming there are many players around the league that Ryan is familiar with and vise-versa that could fill in some role-player and back-up positions.

And I'd love Spencer, but as Fin stated earlier, he was pretty ordinary until this past season. I get nervous about players who drastically improve during their contract year.
