Sean Payton on Sirius
Payton on was Sirius this morning. Cliff notes as follows:
1. People talking too much about 3-4 vs 4-3 when majority of snaps are not in these formations 2. Vilma is going stay a saint - stay on weak side. 3. Lofton is a big guy will stay in strong side position 4. Payton had an hour long discussion with rob Ryan yesterday talking about which players would fit which schemes. That's all I remember. Looks vilma is not going anywhere. |
Re: Sean Payton on Sirius
Waiting for the bombs to drop. We have to get under the cap and also free up some room at the same time. Vilma seemed like an easy target, guess not.

Re: Sean Payton on Sirius
Its almost free agency and draft time, I wouldn't believe anything that comes out right now. IMO Vilma is one of the first to get cut, somehow someway the Saints have to get under the salary cap. Vilma and Will Smith look like the easiest targets

Re: Sean Payton on Sirius
I think Vilma stays because he's probably fine with restructuring his contract to get the cap number down. Will Smith is the biggest cap relief. If he's cut you get 10mil in cap relief. Vilma 6mil. Probably easier to restructure Vilma more than Smith. So I can see why he would stay. And I don't mind it...I truly believe Vilma wants to retire a Saint.

Re: Sean Payton on Sirius
I can see Vilma staying at a lower cost, it's not like Ryan stays in the 3-4 exclusively.
He mixes in a lot of the 4-6 in short yardage situations, the 4-6 with zone coverage behind it... |

Re: Sean Payton on Sirius
I actually prefer Vilma staying as long as he restructures. He's a good guy and a good leader.

Re: Sean Payton on Sirius
As long as it gets fixed.

Rob usually blitzs out of it in short yardage situations with zone coverage behind it... |

I don't know about you guys but when I hear the word "zone", I cringe
