this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Well rookie kickers did pretty well for themselves this past season - Walsh for the Vikes on the forefront - so I guess the question is if you can find a rookie kicker in the later rounds who'd be cheap ...

Well rookie kickers did pretty well for themselves this past season - Walsh for the Vikes on the forefront - so I guess the question is if you can find a rookie kicker in the later rounds who'd be cheap and as effective as Hartley.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?
He does make me nervous, but it seems like Sean really likes him. That and with all the other things for Sean to figure out, I see him here for this year at least.

I like Hartley but as it goes I believe in competition is the only thing that makes teams better, bring them in I would say.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?
I don't like him. I don't think he mentally has what it takes. The only problem is there isn't anyone else out there we could get who wouldn't be as big of a risk. Yea he got us through the SB but that was then this is now. You can only go so far off of one kick. Superbowl aside one can argue that he has lost more games than won for us. I wish we could get someone better but I don't see it happening. I agree he scares the hell out of me and if the game is on the line I have absolutely 0 confidence in him. Especially on the chip shots. Not a chance in hell do I waste a draft pick on a kicker. I would be livid with all the other holes we have.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?
NO, he's not the man. We can easily do better in UFAs.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?
If Santos from Tulane doesn't get drafted, I would bring him in as a UDFA.
He's use to kicking in the dome and didn't miss a kick last year which included several +50 but I would not draft a kicker. Too many other needs. |

Re: Is Hartley The Man?
He's good enough. My thing on kickers is if the game is in their hands there's plenty of blame to go around for even being in that position. Case in point, Anderson was one of the greatest of all time yet we NEVER won a playoff game. Even if Hartley was 100% this past season it would not have mattered. We lost 7 game by more than 3 points. Almost half the games he had no impact.
