Dallas executive says Rob Ryan was fired in Dallas because he used too many schemes
1 Attachment(s)
One of New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's problems in Dallas apparently was his complex and voluminous defensive schemes, according to Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones.
Was former Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's downfall brought on because he employed too many schemes? In a story on the Dallas Morning News website, Jones said "too many schemes" caused the Cowboys to remove Ryan and replace him with Monte Kiffin. "I think Rob is a very smart guy," Jones said told the DMN. "His schemes are very sound. There are a lot of schemes. That becomes a question. We made a tough decision. We felt like too many schemes can cause problems regardless of how good they are and how sound they are. If there is more than the players can digest in this day and time - as you don't keep players for long, they move on and you have injuries - you just had to make a decision. And we made a tough one." Ryan, the son of legendary coach Buddy Ryan and the twin brother of New York Jets Coach Rex Ryan, was hired by the Saints earlier this month and is being tasked with revamping a defense that yielded 7,042 yards last season, the most in NFL history. Ryan will bring in his attacking 3-4 scheme, as the Saints transition from the 4-3 defense used under former defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. In two seasons in Dallas, Ryan's defensie ranked 14th in 2011 and 19th last season when the unit was hit hard by injuries. The loquacious Ryan, who hasn't been made available to the media since his hiring, wasn't available for comment. Link Backhttp://static4.businessinsider.com/i...an-cowboys.jpg |

"Schemes"? Sheeeeit. I just hope one of his many "schemes" gets our defense out of the cellar.

As long as Ryan understands that this is basically a hard reboot he's dealing with, and no matter what you're teaching, keeping it simple comes first.

I'm sure the story is more like
"Jerry tried running the defense too... I told him to butt out and I was fired" The end... once again media making **** up |
Re: Dallas executive says Rob Ryan was fired in Dallas because he used too many schemes
I just hope he use the players he has right.
accept the facts as they are. we are not ready to be a 34 defense. tinker with the roster and evaluate the players but by no means do you go 100% 34 defense this year bounce in out of 34 to a 43 till players prove they can adapt to it. the defense can only improve and the fact we are going back to attacking vs containment is the right first step. like the brain trust here says K.I.S.S. and Tackle |

Still, I'm not convinced that the Saints' players are Einstein's either, so we'll see... |
Re: Dallas executive says Rob Ryan was fired in Dallas because he used too many schemes
The reason i think we struggle with tackling every year is because of how many non contact drills they run in training camp, SP is always saying they are in pads but its not live tackling to stop injuries
Well at this point i think its time to throw the risk of injuries out the window, we need to learn how to tackle and you can tell the players havent practiced it because we learn to tackle about week 5 of the season when its too late |
