Well everyone is doing this now, you constantly restructure contracts to move money out of the salary cap hit and into bonuses and guarantees that don't count against the cap. The Saints and Loomis are actually at the forefront of the league in terms of doing this, one of the best in the business. Eventually all contracts around the NFL will be worked like this, and the odd exceptions will be the players who DON'T restructure every year or couple of years.
Loomis is such a master bean counter, it's like he just loves counting those darn beans -- he loves counting them so much that it's not enough to just count them once, like most normal GMs do, Loomis counts and recounts them again and again, and moves them around into little piles, and is always looking for an advantage. |

Re: Saints, Will Smith reportedly working on restructuring his contract
I'd rather they just cut him, it's time to see if these younger guys are worth keeping

Re: Saints, Will Smith reportedly working on restructuring his contract
What I want to know is, is he actually going to restructure and spread out more money down the road, or is he taking a pay cut? He needs to take a drastic pay cut, or he's not worth keeping around.

Re: Saints, Will Smith reportedly working on restructuring his contract
It certainly wouldn't do the job in the long run. A simple restructure would help out some this year, but would screw us down the road. With his total lack of production, he absolutely HAS to take a pay cut, or there is no reason to have him around. I don't want him on the team, period. It's not anything personal against the guy, but I just don't think he has anything left.

When he was at his best, he wasn't worth half the money they gave him. |

Re: Saints, Will Smith reportedly working on restructuring his contract
cap wise next year is a better year to do a cut if a cut is going to happen. this year is not the year to go that route. we would be cutting our throats.
Get the cap straighten out in 2013 which was at 20 mill then in 2014 we will not be looking at such a big hole cap wise. we will have more wiggle room. we have to deal with two major issues 2014 Jimmy Graham $665,140 Malcolm Jenkins $11,000,000 Zach Strief $1,750,000 David Thomas $1,500,000 Charles Brown $1,310,000 Jonathan Vilma $1,000,000 Will Herring $1,000,000 This is looking the Guaranteed money each player has coming to them in their contract years much easier pile of dung for Micky sort through and work his magic Look at Vilmas number. That is why we are trying to spread the hit out. that way can do some additions in FA or resign some players. |
