New Orleans Saints: five offensive free agents to watch

1 Attachment(s)
Tight end Delanie Walker, San Francisco

Walker is an emerging tight end who showed signs of being able to flourish as the team's No. 2 tight end. Playing behind Vernon Davis for much of the past seven years, Walker has caught 123 passes for 1,465 yards and eight touchdowns. At 6 feet and 242 pounds, Walker isn't an imposing figure, but he has proven capable of playing many roles in the 49ers' offense, including lining up a as an H-back.

Why the Saints should sign him: The Saints are thin at tight end after they released veteran backup David Thomas earlier this offseason. Walker could serve as a reliable backup to Jimmy Graham and can help at times as an H-back/fullback.

What could keep the Saints from signing him: After playing behind a star tight end, Walker may be ready to become a starter in the league.

Tight end Martellus Bennett, NY Giants

Bennett should draw plenty of interest on the free agent market because of his ability to contribute as a blocker in the run game and as an intermediate receiver in the pass game. The 6-6, 245-pound Bennett is coming off the most productive season of his four-year career, catching 55 passes for 626 yards and five touchdowns, all career highs.

Why the Saints should sign him: Bennett, a former second-round pick, is talented player who would easily fill the void left by Thomas.

What could keep the Saints from signing him: Like Walker, Bennett may not be desirous of playing on the shadow of a superstar like Graham.

He was a presence last year. I wouldn't hate it if we got him.

What do yu ya'll think of Jake Long:

Tackle Jake Long, Dolphins

In a free agent class with lots of starting caliber offensive tackles, Long may be the best available. A former No. 1 overall draft pick in 2008, Long has been widely considered one of the game's best left tackles, as he has earned four trips to the Pro Bowl. Long's 2012 season was derailed because of a torn triceps injury, but he reportedly has been given a clean bill of help, which should only increase his value.

I have to be honest I am not sold on Toon. For one he came from a Big Ten school who benefitted from good qb play. None of the top receivers in recent years have come from the
Big Ten.
Jones-SEC
Jeffery(soon)-SEC
Green-SEC
Bryant(sort of)-Big 12
Megatron-ACC
Bowe-SEC
Harvin-SEC
DJac-Illinoise(one exception but years ago and Juice Williams)
Idk where Wallace went to
Alexander(recently)-Big 12(now SEC school)
Crabtree-Big 12
Idk about Britt either
There us one break out receiver from the Big Ten and its Eric Decker and well he was that whole offense. But he also benefits from having Manning and bigger target to take defenses off of him.

I haven't seen Sazenbacher, Benn, Royster do anything so far in the NFL that stands out. And Toon may be someone who is too injury prone as well.

Just don't want him to be another wasted draft pick
