Ivory draws 2nd round tender
1 Attachment(s)
Saints extended restricted free agent RB Chris Ivory a second-round tender.
It's a shame. Barring an unlikely trade, the Saints will hold Ivory hostage for a fifth season. Although Ivory has annually outperformed Mark Ingram whenever healthy, Ivory's draft status has continually kept him lower on the depth chart than the 2011 first-round pick. Ivory remains a "hold" in dynasty leagues. He's 25 years old and should hit unrestricted free agency in 2014. Source: Larry Holder on Twitter The only person holding Ivory hostage is himself. |
Saints put 2nd Round RFA Tender on RB Chris Ivory.
According to Larry Holder on Twitter.
Any team signing Chris Ivory would have to give the Saints a 2nd round draft pick as compensation if the Saints did not match offer sheet. Interesting. |
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
If someone offers a 2nd, I'll do naked backflips in front yard.
I suspect we'll accept a 4th or 5th |

Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
I can't see any team giving up a 2nd round pick for him, but as stated by Danno; the Saints can accept a lesser pick and a 4th would be awesome.

In reality, if Sean is just doing this because he wants some compensation for Ivory, then any compensation would be a plus. Be it a 2nd rounder or a 7th rounder.

Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
I guess the move costs nothing. No one is going to bid on him and we will release him anyway. Just later

Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
I wouldn't call us 5 deep. Cadet showed almost exactly nothing last year. He had a few moments in preseason, but I wasn't impressed beyond that. I think it's wise that the Saints have tendered Ivory.
Ingram is inconsistent at best, Pierre is still good but getting up in age for a RB, and Sproles is a situational back. It wouldn't take much for Ivory to quickly be forced into the feature back role. But if he does get traded, at least we get something. |
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
dam chris got a nice raise for his time on IR.
well here to a healthy year? Cadet i hold out hope for this year. he needs to improve in the passing and blitz pick up |

they have had him on the trading block for almost a year now. rumors
so there maybe something in the works. maybe? |

And it's not a shame, it protecting an asset and franchises should get the restricted free agency time when players reside on IR for more than half a season! Quote:

Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
JP, I don't understand why you think Loomis would be an idiot for accepting a 5. The Saints gave Ivory the second round tender as leverage, but frankly it's not hard to imagine teams shying away from acquiring him at all, considering his injury history. I think he's a very valuable player at his current price, due to his ability. It's not a risk for the Saints. But we might not get an offer higher than a 5th, and given our lack of cap space to sign free agents, you can't pass that up. I'll be ecstatic if we get as high as a 3rd for him.
|
I can see him getting traded during the draft. If the right player is there then he becomes a great bargaining chip.

Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
I can see pleading a 5th!
We'd still have 4 RB's, and would likely target another RB as an UDFA. Two years ago depth wasn't the only problem. We picked guys off the couch who didn't have a whole year in our system. So not only were they scrubs, but they were scubs relatively new to Payton's offense. I'd jump on a 4th, but I'm about 50/50 on accepting a 5th. I'd almost rather keep him, if Mickey can make the 2 million fit and we still get some defensive help. That extra 2 million would certainly help upgrade the defense somewhere. |
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
I'm telling you, watch Arizona. They just released Beanie Wells...
|
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
5th rounder is a throw away pick...
|
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
If 'zona will pay as much as they did for Kolb - cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick; then we should be asking for a second rounder and not taking anything less than a third rounder...
Loomis' trade history Jamaal Brown, Reggie Bush, Barrett Rudd, Sedrick Ellis has been less than remarkable - which is why we need a stronger personnel director which he could hire to assist him, rather than just a bean counter... |
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
Brilliant!! He has shown greatness at times and when teams look at film they will see that he is explosive. No one knows how much time he sat and wasn't injured.(outside of the injury report) Smart move in my book. Ask for a second.....demand a third and get a fourth at the very least. He could be good for the right team.
|
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
I wouldn't go lower than a 3rd rounder for Ivory.
Anything less I would just keep him. I just don't believe a 4, 5 or 6+ rounder could match Ivory's contributions. Two or three years down the road developmental project contributors aren't even worth talking about. Ivory does what PT, Ingram and Sproles do not do. He fills a niche. If we can get production for him, great, otherwise just keep him and let him bang some heads. |
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
Nothing but a rd 2 for him. The guy is a beast when healthy. At the least a 3rd and a 6th next year.
|
Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
Maybe trade our 5th and Iv for a 2nd.
|
I'd let him go for a 4/5th.
We have little cap room and bigger needs than 2ml on a RB that had 119 carries in 2 years. |

We are already paying out 8.2ml to 3 RB's.If money wasnt a issue then keep him.But for me its either keep him and trade Ingram or trade Ivory.2ml is too much when we need a depth over both lines and in the secondary.

But most teams run the ball more than us and don't have over 30ml locked up in QB and Guards.

Re: Ivory draws 2nd round tender
And don't forget you've got Cadet, who is not THAT bad, as a diamond in the rough, and he is paid like $2 over rock-bottom league minimum, and happy to get it! Loomis could shake the couch cushions upside down and find a way to pay Cadet. So there's that too. It's really 8.5 for 5 RBs!
