Will Jimmy Graham return to form in 2013?
 

To many tight end’s and even receivers in the NFL, finishing with 85 catches, 982 yards and nine touchdowns would be a solid season. For New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, it wasn’t necessarily the stats, but the surprising amount of dropped balls that put up a red flag.

His career-high 15 drops were on 100 targets of the dominant tight end. It was five more drops than any other tight end in the league, but he still led the Saints in catches.

Most of it can be blamed on numerous injuries he suffered during the year. He recently had surgery on his wrist which bothered him all season. He also had a dislocated ring finger towards the end of the season.

Graham triggered an escalator in his rookie contact which raises his 2013 salary from one of the most underpaid players in the league at $575,000 to $1.323 million as he will be a free agent in 2014. Rob Gronkowski was given $55.2 million by the Patriots and that should be in the ball park for Graham who in the last two season has caught 184 passes for 2,292 yards and 20 touchdowns.

With Sean Payton back, and a healthy Jimmy Graham, there is no reason we shouldn’t expect a major bounce back in 2013.

We'll find out if the wrist was the reason for the drops last season. He wants to be the highest paid tight end. Cut down on the drops.

Bittersweet. If he returns to form in 2013, we probably can't afford him in 2014, or at least will make it very difficult to upgrade other areas.

Graham is a Saint and we will not let him get away. IMHO he will remain as a top player at his position.

I don't see us being able to afford him if he returns to form. In the long run I guess its best if he has another down year and signs a reasonable contract. After that he can explode. If he doesn't learn how to hold onto the ball Im not sure I will be terribly upset if he does wind up leaving. I would rather have two Dave Thomas type TE's than one high paid TE with flashes of brilliance.

I reckon the guy shows improved form next term. I hope that he is over his injuries. He has many reasons to be motivated for a better term; sad stats last term, reckons he is worth more, Saints team need to do better. So he will show up.

everyone talking about the article saying Graham wants to be the highest paid tight end in the NFL. there's no substance to that article. it's just some online contributor who had nothing to write about and decided to speculate that's what Graham wants...it's even more ridiculous considering that he's just coming off of his worst season/reconstructive wrist surgery.

He did go on record as saying he did not ever want to play with another QB and would retire when Drew does. Hopefully he hasn't been totally corrupted by money.

Gonzo deserves it. He should be able to get whatever conditions he wants at this point in his career. He has been playing at the highest level his entire career and is known to keep his body in emaculate shape. At his age with his work ethic and experience he doesn't need camp.

Let Gonzo, rake em over the coals, serves them right for not having a replacement ready.....

In the meantime I think we should take a real good look at Fred Davis from Washington..... Another go to TE couldn't hurt.... He's coming off of a injured season so the price shouldn't be to high... The more weapons we find for cheap the better..

We will see. I watched him in warm-ups before the game. He seldom ever dropped a pass in WARMUPS. Like I said we will see.

I totally agree with what you said however Training Camp just isn't for the benefit of Tony Gonzales. His QB and other recievers NEED to work side by side with him to get all thier timing down. If he doesn't show up to training camp it will show in the 1st few weeks of the season.
