Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
I'd take Cassel as a backup.
he has the correct angle for clipboard holding that I like to see in my backup QB |

Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
If not Daniel, who's been here 3 years and knows the system, does it really matter who the backup is? And has Daniel left already?

Who will back up Drew NOW?
Who have we got on radar to replace Chase? How much do we spend?

Re: Who will back up Drew NOW?
Tim Tebow

Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
I'm thinking somewhere btw 1 to 1.5 million.

Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
colt macoy maybe?

Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
Call Vince Young. He wants back into the NFL. Why not as a back-up. I know he's a head case but Payton can handle him.
|
Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
I don't know who, but my gut tells me that this time around Payton is going to go the Mark Brunell route, and get somebody old, off the couch.... somebody experienced who can hold field goals for veteran minimum, one year deal, and who has a good "baseball cap" style, of making suggestions, seeing things -- not just holding that clipboard, but also talking the QB talk to Drew.
I don't feel like they are going to groom another big elaborate youth project just YET, because they coached up Chase for 4 years and then didn't really get anything in return for him, in the end. Also I forget who it was, but back in 2006 Payton had somebody kinda old back there behind Brees. I think this time Payton goes back to that model, of an old experienced guy back there, who has too rickety knees as a starting QB but can hold field goals in his sleep and isn't bothered by pressure. Idea: maybe this means they will now reconsider Garrett Hartley, since Chase held for Hartley in high school, and those two were kinda like a pair that went together. Seriously, that was part of their thing. Both came to the Saints around the same time and they were originally team mates in high school. This could mean something. |
Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
Barkley at #15. Great onfield value. Great trade value. Fitzpatrick next.
|
Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
I really like the Fitzpatrick idea, but as was said he will want too much money. I'd snap up Cassel in a heartbeat. I like the guy and have wanted him since we played him as a back up in Philly I think.
Also, Payton might could nactually coach this guy into a good NFL QB. |

Now having said that about Cassell, I would love to have the guy as our back-up. The guy was pretty much set up to fail in KC, because all they really had was Dwayne Bowe. If he had another couple of weapons, he may still have a job there. Other than that, he's been a fairly decent starter with a couple of pretty good seasons. I would feel more than comfortable with his as our back-up if something ever happened to Drew. |

Re: Tim Tebow for our back up
After the distractions of last season, we don't need another media circus this season. Unfortunately, Tebow, comes with his own media circus. Deserved or not, we don't need a bunch of journalists constantly harping on his presence. And on a slow news day, they always turn to a Tebow story to try to stir up some kind of real or imagined controversy, especially now that they don't have any good Bountygate stories to fall back on.

Tebow will be playin n Canada !

Tebow a Saint!
I can see the headlines now - SMH |
Re: Tim Tebow for our back up
Laugh all you want but he did something no Saint QB did for over 30 yrs and that's win a playoff game.

Re: Tim Tebow for our back up
Being a Saint would tear Tebow apart inside. He'd end up changing religions. His tshirt would say "Breesus Saves".
|
Re: Tim Tebow for our back up
Not a good fit...............move along. Payton liikes his QB squeeky clean. Tebow is just a little too squeeky clean though.

Re: Backup quarterback ... hear me out
Collin Klein? really? hmmm have to admit i am puzzled but ok
I am going for the party animal as a UDFA Peter Lalich, QB Peter Lalich, QB, California (PA), NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com California quarterback Peter Lalich back in control By Jason Mackey Published: Friday, October 7, 2011 In 2008, Peter Lalich led the Virginia football team against then-No. 3 Southern Cal with a record 64,947 fans packing Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va., and current New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez on the opposing sideline. This past Saturday, Lalich packed his own equipment bag and sat through a four-hour bus ride to Lock Haven University, starting at quarterback for California (Pa.) before fewer than 600 fans. It was a swift descent for Lalich, who has departed from two Division I programs for alcohol-related issues. Yet because of the Vulcans' history of welcoming players such as him, the 6-foot-5, 235-pounder was given another chance. Lalich, who transferred from Virginia to Oregon State before landing at Cal, has done his part, too, improving his off-the-field behavior and earning conference acclaim. "The kid screwed up, and we have given him a chance to prove that he's not a total screw-up," Vulcans coach John Luckhardt said. "So far, he's been spot-on as far as doing the right things with us." "WHOEVER PUT THIS POST UP SHOULD BE SHOT!"
We will draft a qb late or get a Jason Campbell, Brady Quinn, or Matt Cassel. Me if he's there I like Colby Cameron out of LaTech: He's accurate and athletic also smart and a winner and competitor! If he's available in 6th or if u like him alot a 5th if the board's value isn't there! |
