What position does everyone think we will address with our first round pick in the draft?

Do you think it will be an OLB for the 3-4?
Maybe you think Martez and Junior get the start so we go for a CB or safety?
Or even start up front and go DT?

You may even believe we might address our LT need? (I personally hope we go defense first)

Have to wait and see what moves the Saints still make in the free agency before it'll be worth while to debate what position they'll target.

They trade with San Fran who takes K. Vaccaro with the #15 for that they get San Frans 1, a second, and a 5round selection.

No doubt, but what LT will be available at 15 that will be worth spending that pick for? It seems we could use our third or even fourth and do just about as well in that department. I'm saying defense and quite possibly narrow it down to the line depending on what happens the next couple of days.

This is thinking a little ahead but if we are able to get Nnamdi I think we trade down for more picks and use that to address LT later in the draft and pick up additional rotational players

Will settle for: Barkevious Mingo DE/OLB LSU

If both are gone, trade down, take the best rated pass rusher available, and draft best available with the 2nd rounder we'd get for the trade. Go Tyrann Mathieu 3rd, LT 4th, and defense rest of the way.

Jarvis jones or B. Mingo just because there will be no LT worth picking in the first round, need someone with experience. I hope they have a plan to protect Drew's but if not they need to be looking for a backup QB

Trade down for multiple picks ... just how far will be determined by the quality and quantity of our FA class. This is still a good year for UDFA... and the Saints have been particularly good with these under SP and Loomis.

Looks like a good group of 2-3 round tackles are out there. Not really feeling the Fluker thing. Rest of the list looks good, but I don't think Williams is gonna be there mid-third. Kind of liking Danno's idea of offering up Ivory plus our first for some twos, threes and fours then grabbing Williams in the second.

I actually played with and against Fluker while he was in Mississippi, and he's better suited for RT, not LT which we really need. I also believe he's a 2nd round pick. He's kind of awkward..

He is so RT its not even a debate for those that have watched him.

He has the size and power to be an absolute monster at RT in this league.

His footwork will keep him on the right side. He's just does not have Left Tackle footspeed.


I also think he may be an early to mid 2nd, maybe late 1st at best.

Exactly. One surprising thing about him, he was really fast. He played DT for a while. I watched him chase down running backs in open field. He's really gifted...just awkward and a little sloppy.

Linebackers tend to be smarter and more motivated than the DL players that we may have as options. If we are going to install a 3-4, we need a lot more smart players.

Trade down into the early to mid 20's and draft ILB Alec Ogletree.
If we manage to acquire a second round pick in that deal we can draft Barrett Jones, Jesse Williams, DJ Fluker, or Margus Hunt. It really just depends who is available

I say the Saints get Mingo, I believe he has the potential to be a Demarcus Ware type player and well... I know Ryan will appreciate the skillset of a Demarcus Ware type player on his 3-4 defense

Unless Lane Johnson falls to 15, I see Rob Ryan taking his cornerstone player with the first pick.

What is the one position in a 3-4 aside from NT that could wreak the most havoc on an offense? An OLB who can rush and cover.

Hope we are able to trade down (I know, I know, everybody always says that), but we have many holes to fill. Grabbing a LT is important but it'd be hard to ignore the worst defense in the history of the NFL in the first round and have to wait until round 3 to address it.

I haven't heard much talk about Fluker, but if we get Butler today, we still will need an OT. If he's available he would seem like a logical choice. He's played for a consistent national champion/contender, so he went against all the best school's 'A game' weekly. Was he only a R-OT and just not left?
