Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
1 Attachment(s)
Saints signed TE Ben Watson to a three-year contract.
A do-it-all tight end still going relatively strong at age 32, Watson will replace David Thomas as the Saints' top backup behind Jimmy Graham. In 16 games with the Browns last season, Watson hauled in 49 passes for 501 yards and three touchdowns. His numbers are likely to dip with a reduced role in New Orleans, but this is a smart depth signing by Saints GM Mickey Loomis & Co. Via rotoworld New Orleans Saints Add TE Benjamin Watson and LB Ramon Humber Saints re-signed LB Ramon Humber to a one-year contract. An undersized weak-side linebacker type at 5-foot-11 and 232 pounds, Humber won't be a candidate to play on defense in Rob Ryan's new 3-4. He did rack up eight special teams tackles in 2012 and could earn a roster spot there. Can A brother get a breaking News!!!! |

Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson!!!!
GREAT pickup, UGA represent!
Having him and Jimmy on the field together- I can't wait. Plus he's built like Mack Truck, so run-blocking hopefully won't be a problem (he's smart too, 48 on the Wonderlic three years ago) |
Very nice.

Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
At 32 y/a I hope his salary isn't too much over the vet minimum, but I do like the signing - a replacement for David Thomas.
|
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
Dave Thomas clone good not great. One less need to address.
|
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
There's another need taken off the books. Pretty decent move, too. Watson has been a consistent TE over the years.

Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
Someone post him chasing down champ bailey on the 100 yard interception return, thats an amazing play
Reliable and good player |
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
This is a pleasant surprise

Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
Wow. Another good signing. Solid, not spectacular.
I don't have a lot of faith in the over-spend, over-the-top signings. |

Score!

Ben Watson is so much better than DT its not even funny. |
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
He always been one of the most athletic TE's in the league... always underutilized in the passing game. While being 32 years old, he's still in excellent shape. I thought he should have easily had a better career receiving the football.
I like the move and I doubt it was expensive. This also bring another veteran high character presence in the locker room. **************Disclaimer alert****************** This is not a re-tread signing. |
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
I like this signing ... Athletic Tight End ... Another weapon in Drew's arsenal ... JG BW MC JM DS ... Who do you cover?
|
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
What is not mentioned in the signing is how good a special teams player Ben Watson is, also great effort plays someboody remembered this so I cued it up!!! |
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
I like this pick up.
Save having to sign a TE in the draft, there are a couple of 6/7 rounders im hoping go undrafted so we can pick them up and have a look. Could be a god bit of business. |

He was rated tied for the 4th best TE (3-star) available in free-agency behind Gonzalez Bennet and Clark

There's going to be even more things we'll be able to do in the red zone.

Solid vet. Capable in all aspects. The Saints needed a TE who can block.

Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
A great pick up here. Watson is a classy player. He's unselfish and a teamer. Love this move.

Love that play on Champ. Anyone who refuses to accept defeatism I want on our team.

Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
nice move
Thomas was $1.7 against the cap. Watson must be less, or why bother? BW is two years older and very similar |

Rumor on another board is we just signed Nmandi Asomugha.
Unconfirmed obviously, and a hit & miss source, mostly miss. |

Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
I am not jumping up an down over it. Freaking insane move
the only good thing i see in the Watson signing is the contract amount. three-year deal is insane there was a reason the pats let him go and it was not money. One play your going to be amazed and the your going to throwing things at your TV. oh well there is still the draft. Oh thats right we signed watson to a three year deal. One special teams, Humber ! no upgrading in that move. i like the guy but ... I guess the well is drying up Micky has me shaking my head yet again. he is batting about .300 in my book so far. thats good in baseball but it not good enough in football |
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
I'm sure Humber is a special teams signing at vet min.
Nothing to dislike about that at all. |
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
3 year deal could just as easily become a 2yr deal...
I like the Watson signing personally. He's everything that members have said he is here AND he comes from Payton's favorite program - The Patriots |

Should be probably double vet minimum. I can live with that. |
Re: Saints Sign Ben Watson, Re sign Humber
I hope this is a huge signing.
While he is long in the tooth, this gives us a "real" TE for the first time in a long time. I love Graham, but I love two TE looks more. Now we have a guy that can block, catch and run IN ADDITION to Jimmy Graham. He is capable of scoring 6-8 TD's next year. |
