Anyways, with the way that Brees operates at qb, we don't need an outstanding LT, just a solid one and Vollmer would be that for us. Based on it being buyer's market right now, I think you could get a decent price for Seb's services as well and then focus on an end/OLB for the first round of the draft. Alternately, even though our first rounders usually disappoint, the scouts have success drafting linemen in the mid-late rounds, maybe they have their eyes on some prospects already? |

Re: Left Tackle what is the answer.
There's a reason Solder was drafted and Vollmer was put on the right side. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that Mickey Loomis ever even says Vollmer's name in passing. It isn't happening. Ever.... Period.

Re: Left Tackle what is the answer.
Coach recently said this is what keeps him up at night; LT. Draft IMO is not even an option, too much time to develop someone, at least a year. I was fine with letting Bushrod walk but now I have serious seconds thoughts. Only option I see is get whatever you can afford and make it work. Get them help, design schemes that make them less of a liability. It's going to be a weakness just have to deal with it.

Re: Left Tackle what is the answer.
well it is interesting and the saints better do something.
OC play last year was ok. defenses figured out how to get a push up the middle. if that does not improve and we get to a second string LOT we better get a veteran QB TO BACK UP DREW BECAUSE HE IS DEAD MEAT BACK THERE. |

Re: Left Tackle what is the answer.
We need affordable options right now. If we didn't pay Bushrod we won't pay someone worse than him or get anyone more expensive than him.
Find a way to move positions of strength like RB into getting back a 2nd round pick. Be it Ivory and a late rounder to get a #2. Use either of 1st or newly acquired 2nd to get the best available OT and pass rusher at either spot. Sign a one year stop gap type tackle to give us veteran back up or mediocre starter experience while the kids grow. I heard Loomis say Charles Brown is ready to be a starting LT on Sirius. I was stunned to hear that. And I don't believe it for a minute. If we go into this season with our starting tackles being Brown and Streif and our best back ups of Jones and Robinson I am prepared to see whoever our backup QB is because Drew may be dead. |

Re: Left Tackle what is the answer.
thats the thing right now affordable at LT are basically back ups at best i do not see any hidden gems in the group.
now the draft has more than one option in the mid rounds but can they take over in year one? thats a big IF |

Re: Left Tackle what is the answer.
Nicks came in to start because somebody was injured.
Bushrod came in to start because somebody was injured. Jahri Evans came in to start because somebody veteran was injured. I don't see them intentionally throwing a rookie into the fire in order to re-create the Saints' amazing past successes with young mid-round draft linemen, all of which weren't originally supposed to be the starter that year when they caught fire. But you never know. The smart thing to do would be for Loomis to sign a washed up aging veteran for minimum, have him get injured in training camp, and then the rookie lineman we draft from nowhere comes in and goes straight to the Pro Bowl, LOL. |
