If we took someone in the 3rd or 4th and felt he could do the job, I'd be okay with it... I'm not stuck on it having to be one of the top 3 tackles.

While Saffold isn't getting paid right now, he will be. If we're trading a high draft pick for Saffold, it's not something we should be looking at short sighted. It's going to cost a lot to re-sign him. Otherwise it would be senseless to trade a high draft pick for him if our intentions was to keep him for only one year. It would also be senseless to take a wait and see approach on a contract situation as you've pointed out. If he doesn't work out and we cut our losses, we're back at square one and still wasted a draft pick... a high one at that.

The idea of Ivory for Saffold is also unrealistic... very unrealistic. Extremely unrealistic. Brittle backup running back for a starting left tackle. I'm sure I don't have to go any further with that.

Don't get me wrong though... I wouldn't be disappointed if we made a move for him at all. I just don't think we need to especially if it's going to cost us a draft pick or two that coincides with his ability.
We are not in a position to trade draft picks away, not even for Brandon Albert. That thought never entered my mind. We do however have a boatload of running backs and since the SJ release that is not their strong suit. ingram/or Ivory for Saffold has plenty of merit, yes Saffold is a starting left tackle, but he is a disgruntled starting LT who will if he doesn't demand a trade, will bolt once the opportunity presents itself leaving the rams with nothing for there investment. Why not get something now rather than wait on him to leave with no compensation.

That one is not so far fetched as one may think. trade our 1st and get albert and a pick or two in later rounds and/ or swapping potions in a round, say round 3. the differ the balance of picks to next years draft for us.

i can see SP and Reed open to the idea now that Reid is in the AFC. they do have a history together

As far as the LOT OT of the rams he is worth a look at but there is a reason they signed long. could it be the kid needs to move to ROT? if so there is a glut on the market for ROT so the price maybe right. kicking tires and lighting fires

Lemme get this staight ( I know it's not you hagan IMS)..... It's far fetched to trade a position of need for a position of need with the Rams. RB for LT, and gain money taking the need for LT off the books and not having to pay a kings ransom to get a starter. But it isn't far fetched to trade our first Round pick for Brandon Albert who is going to command a higher salary than the guy we got rid of at the position.... We could only make moves like this if we were in " CAP HEAVEN.... We reside in "CAP HELL" where you have to make calculated moves and save money...

I put up a column a few weeks back about this and asked what kind of grades Saffold was getting, and as it turns out he started of with a bang, got injured and sputtered and graded out as a better than average tackle last season. But comon it's Jake Long.... That's like saying hay Patrick Willis is available when you have Jon Vilma...... OF COURSE I WANT WILLIS!!!! When healthy Jake Long is one of the LT's in the league.... The Rams placed there bet on Long being healthy versus him breaking down further. I don't think the change was based on how the kid played....

In no way would it be an easy trade we still have harpers contract to redo in our back pockets i think. But all i am saying i really think if they wanted to do the deal and so did albert. the relationship between SP and Reid make it possible. It would be interesting to see how they would work it out

Now if you were selling me this from the start, I can see how it makes sense for both parties. Don't really know if I'd do it, but it would be an intriguing deal. I'm by no means Ingram's number 1 fan, but I'd like to see him breakout and become a franchise back here. There's still some solid LT's left on the market... I'd kick the tires on them first.

With that said, the Rams did use a second round pick on Pead and are also pretty high on Richardson... who at one point in the season, looked like their future. They may not find Ingram all that appealing.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.
