Jonathan Cooper in the first??????

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Sounds like a good plan but unfortunately probably not going to select an offensive lineman that early. I believe their going to give Charles Brown a shot to prove he can and if McKinnie Is still available after the draft ...

I believe their going to give Charles Brown a shot to prove he can and if McKinnie Is still available after the draft sign him for the league minimum.
They take the best player on the board as they always have, I believe if Austin if there he taken at #15 unless someone offers them a late first and 2nd round pick.
I know I'm going to catch grief for this but that's my opinion.

Happy Easter Everyone!!!!!

In a couple of other threads I brought up potentially adding Austin as well. I can't see how Payton would not want to add another weapon like this into that offense.

I'm still a proponent of trading down and acquiring more picks in this draft. But if Austin is there when we select, it would be hard to pass on his talents.

As far as drafting Cooper... looks like a heck of a talent. But I can't see us drafting another interior lineman this early in the draft.

Re: Jonathan Cooper in the first??????

Austin is an impressive prospect, but in this defensive rich 1st round we really need to stick to defense.we have plenty of talent on the offensive side of the ball. I want a defensive STUD! Not just one that we think is great- one that the whole nfl respects and fears! If I had 3 first round picks,I would use all three on defense.....well-maybe one on any of the top three tackles. But I do agree,Austin in the black and gold would be awesome!

Re: Jonathan Cooper in the first??????

I guess we will see come draft day, but I believe it's going to be Tavon Austin or the safety from Texas Viccaro. I look at the defense and believe that it will be much improved with the simple additions they've made. Will Smith IMO is a DE not an OLB, to slow and a little long in the tooth.
People don't be surprised if Austin is there at 15 that Sean Payton picks him. He's a 3 in 1 player, return punts, kicks, slot WR and can also be used out of the backfield. Just my opinion guys, don't beat me up to bad.

A little touchy aren't we? I think "Lucy" suits you much better cause you're wearing it very well.

Now I'll address the rest of your points.

You could either

(a) Start him at Center, imagine that front three for Brees...

(b) Move Grubbs or Evans along with the corresponding salary hit...
(a) Why would I want to draft a center at 15? That's crazy especially considering how cheap and effective De La Puente is. He graded out consistently as one of the better centers in the league. Why would you want to replace him?

(b) Why would I draft a guard at 15 when we have two All Pro guards that are playing at a high level on our team? Being that we're average at tackle, let's move one of our stud guards for a rookie who may or may not become a good player. Wouldn't this be counterproductive and put our franchise quarterback at more risk? This makes little sense.

(c) But you're absolutely right, and I have said it, I wouldn't let him sit and "learn"...

...point is, drafting Warmack would give you options to get younger at guard and reduce the salary commitment to a valuable, but non-skill position...
It certainly gives us options... not sure if I'd consider them a smart route to go. Quality interior lineman are abundant in the mid rounds of every draft. It's not an area of need nor concern. Spending the 15th pick in the draft on a guard just doesn't sound like a good idea.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

I agree no way they adjust the offensive line with a draft pick, as I I've posted on other threads if Austin is a available and there's no chance to move down for more draft picks Sean Payton doesn't pass on him or vaccaro more Austin than Viccaro. I believe Harley's Brown will get a shot at left tackle with help from newly acquired Watson and backs out of backfield just like Bushrod needed help on occasion against elite pass rushers. They may even sign a LT like McKinnie after the draft just in case the injury bug hits Brown again

Re: Jonathan Cooper in the first??????

I WOULD LIKE TO GRAB TAVON AUSTIN TOO, But if someone wants to break the bank and move up in front of STL I might would consider letting Austin go for 2 or 3 more picks! I also believe we can probably trade a RB and CB if we sign or draft one not to mention training pr cutting Roman Harper! So we should be able to aquire more picks atleast I hope so that way we wouldn't have to trade down and we can take a top 15 talent because we need an infuse of young star talent and that's why we need more picks because of the deep defensive talent in the draft this year!
