Columnist says: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
As long as Drew Brees is the quarterback, and he has more than one able-bodied receiver to throw the ball to, the New Orleans Saints are going to pass the ball, and pass it a lot. But in 2013, keep an eye out for Saints running back Mark Ingram to have his biggest season in the NFL.
The 2009 Heisman Trophy winner has had a fairly quiet career as a pro in his first two seasons, but business is going to pick up in the Saints backfield for Ingram this year. With head coach Sean Payton making his long awaited return, and New Orleans seeing the need to control the ball in different ways moving forward, it would make sense that the Alabama product would be the man to carry the load. In two seasons with the Saints, Ingram has rushed for a solid 3.9 yards per carry, but has been unable to put together a big season in terms of total yards and touchdowns. Ingram can be the workhorse when asked to, as evidenced by his 2009 season with the Crimson Tide when he tallied up 271 rushing attempts for 1,678 yards, and added another 32 catches for 334 yards. Rushing and receiving he combined for 20 touchdowns that year, and helped lead Alabama to a national championship. The Saints aren’t going to hand the ball to anyone over 250 times this season, but it would be a safe bet that Ingram will see career highs in attempts and yards if he stays healthy. Ingram took the ball 156 times, gaining 602 yards in 2012, and that was with the Saints essentially sputtering for the better part of the season. Ingram is the type of bruising, punishing runner that most of the defensive lines in the league aren’t equipped to deal with anymore, as most defensive coordinators are going for athleticism and quickness over bulk to compensate for the direction towards read-option offenses and quarterbacks. Look for Ingram to finally break that 1,000 barrier in 2013, and to be one of the Saints’ offensive MVPs. Read more at Mark Ingram: Set to have a breakout year for the New Orleans Saints |
Re: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
I hope we get smarter with our backs to be fair, Ingram can't get in a groove when he comes in on first and 10, runs a dive up the middle with 8 in the box and then comes straight out again
Mix it up! get him runs outside, runs off tackle, screen passes!! Get him into a groove and start faking runs with him and giving it to sproles on a reverse |
Re: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
blocking and more diverse play calling would go a long way
|
So the author is citing a big college year as evidence that Ingram will have a breakout year? Reaching a little?

That said, if he gets btw 800-1000 yards, I'd consider it a breakout year for him. |

If any of our backs finish a year with over 200 carries and a YPC of greater than 4.2 YPC that is a great year for a Saints RB. |

Re: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
Obviously everything is just on paper right now, but I gotta think the whole team will probably step up their games a notch or two. Especially the defense

If the 2012 defense shaves just 1TD per game we go 9-7 we would have beat KC and GB. If they shave 1TD and 1FG we go 11-5 |

I don't know if I believe that.
I think he is exactly what he has been. |
Re: Columnist says: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
I loved him in Alabama and was really excited that we got him in the draft. Now, not so much. I'm still hoping that if he was the feature back that we would get the production that I expected.

I'm going to have a monster year, too. Thirty years ago I was an All American, and history is on my side.

Re: Columnist says: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
Im still Hoping we will have a draft day miracle and move ingram for a second and a third.. (Just wishful thinking on my part i know). We can retool the defense, and maybe get another wide out to groom. We can get another RB next year. Ingram has proven that he is nothing special, and Pierre is still our main back. Our wide outs are all 30+ Morgan has spirts, and Toon can't stay healthy. We have a deep backfield, and we need Ivory to get more touches, along with Sproles.

Turnovers is what got us to the Superbowl.

Re: Columnist says: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
I wish folks would stop talking about getting multiple picks for our RBs .I ain't happening. None of these players will get anything other than a mid rd pick.? We might package Ivory and picks to trade up or for a vet player. I just don't see it happening. It is unrealistic.to even consider.

Re: Columnist says: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
I'm still on the Ingram train for one more year. If he doesn't produce with the opportunity to do so this year then I'll jump off. I still think he's going to make people forget Ivory this year. If he doesn't I'll stand corrected.

I think he's been OK, not great but certainly not as bad as some here proclaim. I think 2013 is pretty close to sink or swim with Mark. |

Ingram isn't a bruiser style RB, he even said it himself.

That's it? That's the article? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
Well then, shoot... Here we go... Nick Toon poised for record-breaking year AP - (YOUR TOWN, USA) -- The New Orleans Saints, an NFL team known for their passing prowess, are set to add another weapon to the arsenal in 2013. WR Nick Toon. Toon, son of former NFL-er Al Toon, Toon scorched the weak-ass Big Ten for a whopping 64 catches in 2011... And when those numbers are applied to the "Mark Ingram Rule," (which calls for a player to perform better than they ever have in a pro football game/season "just because a writer says so" even though said writer clearly has never watched a game) Toon is looking at a record-breaking campaign. Calvin Johnson -- (laughter) move over... Nick Toon is on the scene... Why??? Because, Rantsports.com... that's why |

people whine about running backs a lot.
ironic part is, the whiners could never be a running back. i like mark ingram. i think he is a great running back. i couldn't do what he does regularly. |

I say we trade Ingram for a 3rd rd (if possible) or a 4th rd and try to get Marcus Lattimore in the draft. Give him a year to rehab and he's gonna be a beast. It would be a nice franchise piece once drews gone

Re: Columnist says: Mark Ingram Will Have Huge Season for New Orleans Saints in 2013
Tired of RB's with all this talent and no ability to stay healthy. We have 3 RB's that could be 1200 yd 15 td backs if they could stay on the field. I don't give a crap what rb we use if he can stay healthy. If freaking Collins stayed healthy he could rush for 1000 yards in this offense.

I see your point though, we'd probably have at least a 1,000 yard RB. Who knows though, with Sean Payton back and his re-comittment to the run game you may be right. The problem though is Sean himself. We all know he gets the fever (pass pass pass), as Parcells put it. I'm hoping we stop trying to make Mark break 3 tackles before he reaches the line of scrimmage. |
