If you look at the whole time that he's been here, more often than not the Sean Payton model is to have a semi-washed up, old journeyman veteran guy for a backup QB. The guy with the rickety knees and the old-school looking chin strap. THAT'S a Payton backup QB.
Chase was really the exception to the rule, and he may have had more to do with being the holder for Hartley, since they had a history together. I like this move. All I care about is the guy having nerves of steel when it's time to hold a FG with the playoffs or Super Bowl on the line, and this guy has seen the playoffs before, he's held field goals in the playoffs, he's not going to be freaked out by the pressure of holding the kick in a hostile stadium, indoors, outdoors, in a snowstorm, downpour, etc. etc. And he can speak "QB speak" to Brees about what is happening on the field, while wearing the baseball cap. That's all we really need. |

Re: Luke McCown Signed (1 year)
I think Morstead might be the holder now that Daniel is gone, since he did it for Kasay when him and Hartley were sharing kicking duties in the preseason.

Re: Luke McCown Signed (1 year)
It doesn't matter who our backup is frankly. If they see the field we are either dead in the water or laying a beat down.
