Is DB a bigger priority now?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; They will draft a cpl dbs and 1 of each if not another nickel corner like Mathieu! If I had a choice my draft would consist of atleast 7 if not 8 picks by acquiring 2 or 3 through trading ...

If I had a choice my draft would consist of atleast 7 if not 8 picks by acquiring 2 or 3 through trading a safety, rb, or lb or cb! Let's just say a few aren't going to fit in a 3-4!
1st rd pick 15. Star L., 2nd rd "via trade of rb" Robert Alford, 3rd rd Terron Armstead, 4th rd. Tyran Matheiu, 5th rd. Best safety available lets believe Shamarko Thomas falls, 5th rd via Roman Harper trade, Bennie Logan, 6th rd. Best WR or TE available! That's a coup if it happens something like that!

Really? I didn't think CB would be the pick when the Saints drafted Patrick Robinson either. I'm just saying, you never know. Im hoping for Alec Ogletree or a trade back.

Really we have tons of MLBs on our staff Ogeltree will fit better in a 4-3 chase LB just like Vilma does matter of fact they are built alot alike with their skill set! But ee don't need him now maybe last year but not this year he'll be exposed in a 3-4 when zone and pull blockers get their hands on him! I believe they either select DT but only if Star is there or Sly Williams is on their 1st rd board but if they go CB it wouldn't surprise me especially if Rhodes or Trufant are atop their board! BUT IT ALL GOES BACK TO THEIR BOARD! Which is made up of on a rd grade based on need with draft situation and draft value which even FA plays a part in! But positions get rated different each year based on the players available think about is lasy year overall selection Luck equal to this years probably not but it depends on players available and their position and the depth of that position in the draft and even during the current FA!

Nobody in there right mind is giving us a second rounder for one of our RB.

Might have tons of MLB, except for Lofton we can still use an upgrade at the position especially one who can cover. If Rhodes or Trufant is the pick, I'd be very happy! Star available at 15 is wishful thinking, he is the one guy I'd want most in this draft.

Sylvester Williams at 15, no thanks. Could trade back and still get him. This draft is very on defensive players, would love to trade back and pick up a second rounder.

If they could add a 2nd round pick somehow, I wouldn't mind them picking up Amerson, but the focus does need to be on the defensive front 7 and OT.

I'm not sure you could get a 2nd rounder for any player that isn't a QB or an All-pro.

How often do 2nd round tenders get signed by other teams, forfeiting a 2nd round pick?

Re: Is DB a bigger priority now?

2nd rd picks are very valuable. Not having one is a big disadvantage in a deep draft and changing defensive schemes. I kee p reading these post about trading RBs and Harper for high picks .STOP IT. Trading down is the most realistic way for us to recoup a 2nd rd pick. We might be able to package a RB and pick to move up.

Perhaps Rob Ryan can revitalize Jabari Greer's career. Or perhaps Jabari can stay healthy long enough to make an impact. But he's not getting any younger, that is for sure.

Re: Is DB a bigger priority now?

Right now I think the major needs are either at left tackle or interior defensive line. I think with the addition of Lewis, and the holdover veterans on the roster we should be okay at corner.

I still think we could upgrade at the safety position, with positive results for our defense.

But, if we have a chance to trade down and acquire and extra pick or two we need to do it. Unless we are trading back 10 spots, a second round pick is going to be difficult to acquire. Its been said, we really do not have anyone on the roster right now that can get us a second. I fully agree with this.
