NFC South offseason Stock Watch

Roman Harper, Saints. New Orleans fans might not want to hear this, but all indications are the Saints are sticking with Harper at strong safety. If they weren’t it’s likely they would have released him by now or at least asked him to take a cut in pay. Only the Saints know what they have planned for Harper. But the fact that he still is around is a pretty good indication that new coordinator Rob Ryan has plans for Harper. That likely means the Saints will let Harper play to his strengths -- helping against the run and being used as a blitzer -- and not being asked to do too much in coverage.

Playing Harper to his strengths? A in the box blitzing SS?

What a great idea. Who would have thunk it?

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

Well if we can keep him blitzing and still manage the coverage I am all for it. He is a good blitzer and good at getting to the QB.

15 yards and in is Harpers range. He is a very good player inside that box.

I've said it before and I still think it's the right thing to do with him. I would like to see him off the secondary and into the LBer ranks, especially now that we've adopted a 3-4 scheme. I think he could play inside or outside and be used as a zone cover man or zone blitzer in a hybrid role.

The only problem is, this role does not command the wage this guy is getting to do it. He still needs to be restructured.

The Saints signed Leonard. That might help the FO make their decision a little farther down the road.

Red face Re: NFC South offseason Stock Watch

DUDE ROMAN HARPER IS GETTING TRADED DID U NOT JUST HEAR WE SIGNED A REAL SS IN JIM LEONHARD! Especially since we switched to a 3-4! Roman Harper's value was being a 5th blitzer but in a 3-4 u have an olb that's bigger faster and stronger than Harper's slow ass! He's either trade bait or his current contract doesn't have any bonuses just base salary Meaning they can cut him anytime before the season starts and owe him nothing! SO THAT'S WHY HE'S STILL ON THE ROSTER I BELIEVE HE WILL BE CUT OR TRADED BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS! If he was going to stay a Saint they would be negotiating a restructured deal "big paycut" Harper is a 1-2 mil base salary guy at best. No way they can justify paying him his current 5.5 mil base salary! He's either taking a big cut in pay because he's a situational player and he doesn't necessarily fit a 3-4 like he did in an aggressive 4-3! So his value lies with another club hence why I have him traded for a 5th rounder!
