this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Aaron Brooks had little preseason work because of a leg injury, but he wasn't the reason the Saints offense was ragged. Receivers dropped passes and the running game sputtered  Deuce McAllister had only 26 yards on 10 carries in ...

Deuce, how ya feeling buddy?
I'm worried about Deuce. His quote reads like an indictment of the coaching/playcalling and that maybe Deuce has taken a big bite from the bitter stick. It makes me want to vomit to think that the best player on this team for the past 20 years might be getting Corey Dillon syndrome. I'd like to get Deuce signed to a nice long term deal before the season's out. But I can see where a guy wouldn't be interested in giving the best years of his career to an organization determined to be mediocre. Our vaunted "deepest offensive line in football" sure don't seem to be getting it done out there. Predictably, our coach refuses to adapt because he's decided that we need to be in 2 TE sets. Jim Haslett should have mandatory regular drug screens. |

That O-line looked horrible. But Deuce tried too many times to dance in the backfield. If he\'d just hit the gap with his power he would probably break a few long ones.
Looks to me like he\'s waiting for that home-run type gap. Put your head down and use your power. Make your own hole. |

Meaning no disrespect to your opinion, Danno, but if Deuce even says that there was no gaps to run through (and he was on the field to see with his own eyes), what gave you a better view of the field than him? I don\'t know how much you can beat this horse about all those supposed \"gaps\" that he shoud\'ve hit, but I don\'t think you were watching the same game. The only gaps he had were when Karney was in the game. If there were any gaps at all other than that, they closed quickly. That\'s why he had to \"dance\" in the backfield. I don\'t care how strong Deuce is running north and south, he\'s not going to make many groups of three back up. I\'m not sure what your problem is with Deuce, but I think you are stretching here.

I don\'t have some unseen problem with Deuce. I did see a few holes open for him and he didn\'t exactly burst into them. I\'d prefer he put his head down and drive the pile 2 or 3 yards forward than shuffle his feet 8 times and get taken down for a 3 yard loss.
It was just something I thought I noticed, and I could be wrong. It might be that our blocking schemes don\'t match Deuces style. It might be better for the team that he adjust slightly to minimize that O-lines weakness. I just hope that over-hyped O-line can start blocking a bit better. Victor Riley-Has always been a good run blocker and a so-so pass blocker Montrae Holland-Specializes in run blocking. I believe he\'s been referred to as a road-grater. Bentley-All pro equally skilled at run/pass blocking Kendall Jacox-Probably the weak link on this line but a decent LG nonetheless Wayne Gandy-A solid but unspectacular LT. he certainly isn\'t the problem. So I ask you this... Why can\'t this line run block? It should be their strongsuit. For the record I think Deuce is easily our best player on O or D and a top 10 back in this league. I look for him to grab the bull by the horns and make someone pay dearly. i hope its San Fran this week. [Edited on 13/9/2004 by Danno] |

how about we don\'t piss off our team MVP in hopes of resigning him long term, instead of installing some unproducing offensive scheme that sends him straight into free agency?
