Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
Just wondering how/what his role will be to make him more successful in our 3-4 vs. when he was a Jet and struggled with it. Thoughts?

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
he struggled in the middle so I expect to seem him outside which should work fairly well. right now i would list him as our best pass coverage LB. It will be interesting to watch after an off season with no major rehab.

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
The Jets ran a bit different type of a 3-4 back then than what Rob Ryan is going to run in New Orleans now, so I think Vilma will fit into the scheme, just not as an every down LB.

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
Ryan switches between formations frequently, so Vilma will see the field some I suppose... 3-4, 4-3 personnel "46", and his Psycho 1-5-5 formation

Lofton is the one I'm worried about. |
Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
Vilma should either play ILB next to Lofton or ride the bench and wait for passing situations to get in coverage. OLB would be an awful fit; he's undersized for the OLB positions. At 230 Vilma would get crushed on running plays and now lacks explosiveness to be a pass rusher. What he does have going for him is the instincts and knowledge of the game.
Vilma best place on the team is coaching our young talent. |

As of yet no one has mentioned that Rex is probably getting a little feed back about the inside scoop in regards to the Saints running back Chris Ivory. |

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
I think I remember Sean Payton said in an article a few week ago that Vilma will fit as a WILB...........with the Jets he was asked to be a SILB. Being older and little more savvy might help him! Besides back then he wasn't willing to make the transition, now he embracing it.

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
He did leave NY to get out of a 3-4 & he is getting older & more injury prone

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
Would like to See Ingram give PT a serious Run for the lead back Role
Would like to See All Our New LB's Find where they are strongest ( Most Destructive ) Would like to See Hicks V Anyone that will supply us with a passrush More than anything want to see Ingram V PT , Ingrams due |

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
I agree with Danno, and I'd be a little worried if I was Lofton, because he seemed to me like he was brought in to replace Vilma when Vilma's future was uncertain with the suspensions and injuries (remember before the penalties came down people were speculating about a possible lifetime ban for Vilma), and although I don't dislike him, to me Lofton kinda has the stink of the Spagnuolo hire upon him now, he's kind of a symbol of the "worst defense in history" 4-3 era from when Payton was mostly out of the building, and now the team is clearly moving in a different direction.

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
I want to see how Lofton handles the Ryan 3-4, before I give up on him.

Re: Vilma in our 3-4 scheme
Lofton was in on every tackle.

Why would you want to give up on Lofton? In my opinion, he along with Cam Jordan were one of the very few on D last season who didn't have the U-Haul packed and ready for vacation. Lofton will be fine... even more so with The Big Lebowski calling the shots in the 3-4. |
