Al Bundy Saints Fans?

I often wonder who has played the game at any organized level after reading threads.

I am curious as to how many fans have played the game. If you wish to put your experience in your reply that would be great. Also, please do not think that not having played is any reflection on you or your football IQ, there are a lot of high football IQ people that never played.

I for one am a fan of women's beach volleyball, cant say that I have ever played. :-)

I played for 7 years, Jr. High through High School. I had scouts looking until I tore my hamstring middle of my Sr. year.

I went to a small A school so we did not have the luxury of playing one position. I played OT/DT , and special teams on both sides. In my Sr. year I switched to OG after dropping down to 225lbs.

I also played 9 years of baseball (Catcher) for what ever that is worth.

Played for a local, NOLA Catholic school, freshman to Senior year. Average at best. I know a LOT more about football now than I ever did back then. If I had the appreciation for the sport then, as I do now, I feel like I would have been a lot better. But as they say, hindsight is 20/20...

I played in high school for only my senior year. I was a LT/DE/Special Teams player. I also played basketball for three years after I decided that I was tired of playing the trumpet in band. :-) For whatever it is worth, I have also coached basketball at the peewee and AAU/YBOA level for 10+ years now and pride myself on being a constant student of several games.

I have played rugby football for 32 years. Our team played six man football in high school. Back then I could not even break that little roster. The only sport I was into growing up was Martial Arts. That doesn't really translate well to football except for tackling.
I didn't really understand football until I came to the BNG and read what our members had to say and started studying. God I love this place!:saintsfan:

Don't count your self out brother, in the age where PRO football players do Pilates, martial arts do translate in areas like balance, agility, limberness, and it helped keep my joints and connective tissue strong.

I still cant figure out how after all those years of football and playing catcher my hips and knees are fine. My shoulders are shot.

In some instanced people that didn't play but learned on their own have a higher football IQ as they have studied the game more than those that have played. Those that played "usually" understand positional concepts, like especially on defense it is not so much as having skilled players as having players that play well together. Explains how Dallas could have big names on their defense and not have a highly regarded defense. The O-Line is another area where team work and synchronization are extremely important.

Football as a youngin (OL,DL,LB)
Skateboards, punk rock and pot late in high school.
Beer and flag football in college.

I had more fun playing flag football than any other sport I've ever played.

I played offensive/defensive lineman through high school. Every year they tried turning me into a running back/linebacker & I wouldn't have it. Everything I ever wanted to accomplish on a football field can be done within 3yds of the line of scrimmage, either way..

I played bantam football through junior and senior high and 2 years post secondary. Got cut from the team my third year of college. I wasn't very good. Played MLB at all times and usually was a back up/special teams at that.

Played in Jr High. I was just too small compared to other kids my age - they just kept knocking the hell out of me and I got sick of it. Thrived in Baseball as a 2nd bagger tho. :-)

Re: Al Bundy Saints Fans?

Started playing during a high school year in Deville, Louisiana when I was 18 in -99. Took up playing again in Sweden in 2002 and played until 2012. Started at OLB in a 3-4 and later moved to DE then DT and finally OT in 2005. Made the Swedish national team in 2007 and played the World cup in Tokyo, Japan as a backup OL/ special teamer. Played the European championships in Frankfurt, Germany in 2010 as the starting LT.

Played both OL and DL in the club team and basically all the line positions. Been coaching on and off since 2005. Mostly youth players but adults too.

Re: Al Bundy Saints Fans?

I played PeeWee, JR High, High School and Small College Football.

I was blessed with 4.45 40 yard speed my senior year and could catch virtually anything thrown my way. I easily accumulated over 4300 yards receiving in my college career. I was picked with the 20th pick in the first round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL draft... Sadly... my professional career ended early one spring morning when I accidentally and suddenly woke up.

My wife still thinks I could play an offensive lineman. :saintsfan:

I played Jr and senior HS football. I played LB and center but at 5'7" 175 I didn't see the field much except for special teams. I did start a couple of games at center but unless I was pulling I had a hard time opening any holes.

I always thought I should have been a fullback.

Re: Al Bundy Saints Fans?

Auspicious start as I was kicked out of equivalent to Pop Warner Midget at age 12 because I was already 6' 168# and sent to scrimmage with Bantam Leagues (14-16 yr olds) instead...

Topped out at 6' 1" 215# in HS even though me Dad was 6' 8" (hey, he married a 5' 3" highland she-elf)...

End of Junior Year, Spring Game, after doing two rounds of Oklahomas, my best friend blew out his knee during Gator Rolls...

All spring new coach and a guest veteran speaker driving on about teamwork, brotherhood, never leaving a man behind - well, being the idealist, my hubris & I handed that new coach my helmet rather than going on to drills and waited with my friend till Acadian finally showed...

Following Spring, as a HS Senior, really got my feet under me and followed up on an invite to Northwestern Louisiana on Academic/Athlete Scholarship Weekend, amazed myself and Coach Goodwin staffers running a forty in Saucony running shoes, the ones with the tire rubber...

that evening an assistant stopped by the dorm and said Coach was really looking for "high character" players he could rely on (someone had called my HS for some tape)...

I never stepped onto the football field again...But I Do Love the Game and Love the Saints...

Played some Pro/Am Summer League Basketball while at Tulane, Reilly Center - pretty intense, best shape of my life - that I do miss...

That's it...

Re: Al Bundy Saints Fans?

I never played beyond pee wee. I wanted to but just wasn't athletically inclined. I was pretty musically inclined though and played in the band from Jr. High , HS and Jr. College. So naturally I went to all the games. This is where I really began to love the sport. Looking in the paper about how my HS was supposed to do, I came across an article about the Saints and new HC Dick Nolan and how they were gonna be competitive. And omg, they were, went 7-9 that year and were thrillling to watch. So while I considered myself a Saint's fan since the beginning I didn't watch much on TV until after that. But seeing live games is and always will be the best.

Re: Al Bundy Saints Fans?

As there really wasn't/isn't a big scene for (American) football in Finland - I never played it myself. I did join the local football team's junior program for a while in my early teens, but that was just unorganized flag football, and I stopped attending after a year or so as ice hockey was taking more and more of my time. I did later on go help out in the pro team's practices once in while, mainly just throwing balls to receivers and stuff, since not that many people over here can throw a good spiral.

The mix of physicality and strategy has always intrigued me about football, and I've followed NFL for a very long time in Finnish terms. Back in the day it was really difficult to catch any games on TV over here, and I was only able to see the occasional MNF game at a friend's house - they had a very comprehensive satellite TV sport package back then since my friend's dad was a Finnish pro level basketball coach and he needed to see NBA and college games. I became a Saints' fan at the backend of the Ditka-era, mainly because they were not among the elite teams in the league and I honestly really liked their uniforms, as stupid as that might sound. I really learned (am learning) the game through studying it by watching games and reading things about it. During the time I spent over in the States, getting my Bachelor's in Virginia, I was able to finally attend a Saints' game, even though it was in NC.

Anyway, I'm a big fan of football and I would consider it my second most favorite sport after ice hockey, which I played for years (defensive defenseman) at the junior levels before I badly injured my hand.

If only! Had I my time again I would have done my utmost to prepare for playing this game. No playing experience but being a Saints fan, plenty of emotion released over the years. Would like to think I know a fair bit about the game.

I forgot to throw in 4 years of ARMY, probably should count as experience in slow marathons. Lol

I think mosh pits are what did my shoulders in. Imagine a NIN concert with a huge mosh pit and a 235 lb pulling guard in the middle :-).
