Saints sign Seneca Wallace | ProFootballTalk
Veteran quarterback Seneca Wallace was expected to sign with the Raiders last week, but Oakland decided to pass on signing him right away with the possibility of revisiting things down the road. Wallace wasn’t willing to wait for them to make up their mind, however. The Saints announced Monday that they have signed Wallace. Wallace joins the recently signed Luke McCown as options to back up Drew Brees after the Saints lost Chase Daniel to the Chiefs as a free agent. Wallace was released by the Browns at the end of the 2012 preseason and has made 21 starts over the course of his nine years with Seattle and Cleveland. Wallace worked out for Seattle before his flirtation with the Raiders, but the Seahawks opted to sign Brady Quinn as their backup to Russell Wilson. Assuming the Saints feel comfortable with their veteran backup duo, they could look for a developmental quarterback toward the end of the draft or they could repeat what they did with Daniel and pick up an undrafted rookie to groom into a backup role. As for the Raiders, they’ll have to look elsewhere (Tyler Thigpen, Vince Young and Troy Smith have also worked out in Oakland) if they want a veteran to go with Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor. |
Re: Seneca Wallace
I like the kid. Why not?

Re: Seneca Wallace
Can he run the pistol? Then we have someone to practice against.

Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
It's not my place to question Payton or Loomis
Just don't Spagnoula us again |
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
keep shopping i like it. one will work out
|
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
Gotta have somebody to run the read-option for us to practice against.
He's cheap and has been in the league so he knows how the process works, I'm fine w this. Same price as Daniel was, but with more in-game experience. "It's all about the money, boys!" - Big Dan T, O Brother Where Art Thou? |
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
I'm fine with it, it gives the defense someone to practice against that can run the read option (fad, see wildcat offense) and he comes in cheap so no big deal
|
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
It makes sense.
Its too early to be grooming Drews replacement so a couple of vets for a couple of years fills the hole. |
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
I don't buy this drafting Drew's replacement, if Sean is still around when Drew finally retires, I could see him going after another veteran free agent not someone that would take time to develop

Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
I'm noit excited in the least.............oh well, I'm not in a position to question our FO.

Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
I agree with RaginCajun. Nice signing for back up and to practice defense on read options.

Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
Guy is terrible, but at least he has veteran experience.
|
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
Seneca Wallace is a guy I always though would break out and become a starter in this league, seems like it never has worked out that way for him thou. Athletic guy that I'll think will make a decent insurance policy.

Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
IMHO good Pick up Back up QB training camp battle
|
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
Could they be adding a new wrinkle to the offense? He is a mobil QB.
|
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
I prefer Wallace over McCown, but then again I prefer a head cold over the flu.
|
Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
It gets old... very old about everyone talking about Drew's replacement.
Enjoy watching him play now because I don't think we'll see his caliber in a Saints uniform again... not QB wise anyhow |

Re: Seneca Wallace signs 1 year deal
Getting ready for the OTAs... another QB to throw passes in camp, which is always a necessary move.
I'm not expecting him to ever take the field during the season and, in fact, I think he won't make it through the 53 cut. |

I'm still pi$$ed we didn't sign or at least bring in McClain, but we got the scouting report from former Saints DB now Raiders Head Coach Allen... ...still would have like to have gotten a peak at McClain and when are we going to bring in someone like Winston Justice? |
