Just remember Josh Bullocks was a ball hawk in college... that doesn't always translate. Adrian Wilson had 3 career INT's in college. Dashon Goldson had 4.

There's not much more we could do this offseason and draft to make a miracle happen with our defense. We can only go with what we hope: we're not as bad a defense as the abomination that walked the field last season.

On one hand I think Spags defense served to EXPOSE the players we did have.
Then again, NO WAY we can 'turn it all around' on defense in 1 offseason.

What's most depressing is this is a defense heavy draft. If we ONLY had 1 more pick in the 1st.... or even some 2nd round picks..... ARRRG

Good Lord at all the pessimists... This was a freakin' great pick.

To anyone that thinks different, please go apply to be an NFL scout. There's PLENTY of stars in the NFL that I can guarantee you weren't lobbying for the saints to pick on draft day and PLENTY of busts that you didn't see coming.

Oh, and did some of you know Sedrick Ellis would be nothing more than a mediocre player? Let's leave the drafting to the coaches, please.

We haven't struck gold with a first round pick yet, but we've drafted some VERY successful players. Most on this site have never even watched Vaccaro play, so slow down on the criticism. It's getting ridiculous.

I actually got goose bumps when I realized we finally have a real safety.
Harper is good in the box which is what a SS does.......but that's it. Jenkins is lost and doesn't have a clue.

I really wanted Jarvis Jones but I was Leary his health could be an issue but at least he's a play maker. Kenny Vacarro IMO is drafting Malcolm Jenkins all over again. An athletic guy with horrible hands

Its not a matter of how good Vaccaro is or isn't, it just doesn't matter. If you can't stop the run or pressure the passer the best backfield in the NFL gets burned. The Saints are counting on guys that couldn't get serious PT on the worst defense in NFL history and other teams rejects to become quality starters. What was needed was playmakers in the front seven. Either pass rushers or disruptive forces. What they got was another DB that will be asked to cover WRs while the QB makes himself a sandwich and waves to the crowd before launching it downfield under no pressure.

I agree we need talent up front, but I'm not that negative about it. You make it sound like the season is over already. I'm curious how Ryan uses the talent that is actually on the defense because there's NO WAY we could have filled enough positions in one offseason to make that defense top in the NFL>

Besides, if the Saints have an average defense, the team is majorly potent.

I agree, it is a monumental task overhauling the D in one season with no cap room. I didnt expect the D to be greatly better. I did expect a pick that made much better sense.
