Re: Malcolm Jenkins could see more nickel
Jenkins will sit on the bench by week 8, God given talent but something in the brain don't get it. I think he is a bust. He had Sharper as a mentor something few can say and never got what a master craftsman installed into him and never will !!

He's smart, athletic, doesn't quit and versatile. People here are already talking about him being a CB. Give him one more season of stability. He'll be fine. |

Re: Malcolm Jenkins could see more nickel
I'm not ready to give up on MJ just yet. I tend to agree that his skills probably haven't been utilized very well overall, and I have hope that he will fit well into Ryan's scheme. Whether its playing cb, nickel, or playing down in the box on the te or slot. My thinking is that if he's capable of playing physical at the line he can mostly negate his lack of elite speed. It's what Ryan did with Asomugha and it worked pretty well. Not that I'm comparing the two players, but if I recall correctly, Jenkins was a man-to-man corner coming out of college and it seems logical that he would be better suited to playing a similar style now. Even in his rookie year - and yes, he got burnt up a lot, but - you could see flashes of his potential at corner.. and I still don't think he was being used the right way back then. I might be wrong on this one, and someone please correct me if so, but I don't think GW played a lot of press coverage. I know it was mostly man.. anyway. I feel like Jenkins could, potentially, excel in press. My two reasons being the previously mentioned issue of his lack of straight line speed, and that I believe he is better at playing the receiver one-on-one, like a corner than he is at playing the ball in space, like a safety
Whatever the case, I'm rooting for him. I think Kenny V coming to New Orleans could be one of the best things that ever happens to Jenkins' career. Time will tell.... Man I can't wait for this season. |
Re: Malcolm Jenkins could see more nickel
Im a jenkins fan and I was unsure about when we moved him to FS I liked him a CB I though the was making good strides n them we throw him out into the field to be the man to save r butts but um it hasn't really worked out that way... KV needs to be on the field as much as possible I really think he is going to be a Top Caliber Safety for this team n the coming years...
