Saints have $3.1 million in cap space after the Chris Ivory trade
Following last week’s draft-day trade of running back Chris Ivory from the New Orleans Saints to the New York Jets, the Saints have a little more salary cap space.
According to figures from the NFLPA, the Saints now have $3.1 million in cap space. By sending Ivory to the Jets for a fourth-round pick, the Saints were able to save Ivory’s $2.023 million salary. Since landing with the Jets, Ivory has signed a three-year, $10 million contract. The Saints can spend some of their cap savings to sign a remaining free agent. They’ll also need about $1.6 million to $2 million in cap space to sign their rookies. New Orleans Saints Football NFL News - NOLA.com |

We have to sign the rookies, and maybe you get one more camp body to challenge to be the starting LT!!!

Re: Saints have $3.1 million in cap space after the Chris Ivory trade
Ivory jetison was needed. Still not enough but certainly good enough to get everybody on the field. I honestly don't see where else to trim fat at this point to make any real impact on the books.

We need to save for our Fa's in 2014. The more we save this year the better. 3 players on that list are a must sign and one will not be cheap. |

Re: Saints have $3.1 million in cap space after the Chris Ivory trade
For comparison:
Bucs: $19 million under Panthers: $5.28 million under Saints: $3.1 million under Falcons: $2.18 million under So the Bucs have plenty of room and the Panthers are square. Saints are pretty close and probably should be okay with maybe a restructure or two. Falcons need to do a little work. NFC South salary-cap check - NFC South Blog - ESPN |

I'm thinkin' Brees is the sleeper restructurer (yes, new word) should someone fantastic come our way.

Re: Saints have $3.1 million in cap space after the Chris Ivory trade
They also need some cap room going into the season, so that they can bring in someone if they face lots of injuries on a specific position.

Loomis likes to keep a little nest egg for when the season starts and has room to sign players if some one goes down.
I agree with Guido that 1.5 mill should sign the rookies. This leaves him room to start signing players when the cuts start coming. We will be monitoring the waiver wire closely. I think we'll be alright. Still, I don't anticipate touching Drews contract this year. We're in it too deep. |

Save it for next year when we gotta pay Jimmy G, it would be a nice little cushion

That's more than enough to sign me and a few others...
