here is a scouting report on Troy:


Troy Polamalu is regarded as the most versatile safety in the NFL and a dominating player who was voted 2010 defensive player of the year. At 29, the 16th pick of the 2003 draft is at his peak.

Polamalu is an explosive hitter and is reckless with his body, but he's also a sound tackler. He has a knack for timing blitzes well. He prepares exceptionally well and also has unusually good instincts. His ability to diagnose may be unsurpassed.

At 5-foot-10, 207 pounds, he doesn't have the speed to run downfield with fast wide receivers, but his cover ability is excellent and he can handle a receiver on underneath routes as well as tight ends and backs. He has top ball skills and comes up with a lot of takeaways.

The quarterback has to identify where the six-time Pro Bowler is at all times. It helps to use pre-snap motion to move Polamalu away from the play or identify where he will be and keep the play away from him.

Little early for comparisons like this IMO

I like the guy as much as anybody else, but nobody has seen him play pro ball yet. Let's not get our hopes up unnecessarily high just yet

No...don't put that on him. I honestly hope he can just tackle and cover. It would be a welcomed change to the secondary.

God I hope so. Im not going to hold my breath though. Thats a tough act to follow. Ill be happy if he's 3/4 the safety TP is.

I think the kid deserves to earn his own identity. There are always unnecessary comparisons added to young guys coming up in any sport. Kind of like when we drafted Mark Ingram. A former mod here that shall remain nameless kept saying "we have our Emmitt Smith!". He threatened physical harm to me because I "pissed on his thread" by saying that Ingram was unfairly given that comparison and needed to create his own identity. He couldn't handle someone disagreeing with him. I cringe every single time someone even mentions "Dome Patrol Version 2.0" There will never be another Emitt. There will never be another Dome Patrol. There will never be another Jordan, Ruth, Montana, Gretzky, or Arnold Palmer. What's wrong with the guy just simply being Kenny Vacarro?

Exactly...

The beginning of the NFL year: Free Agency, The Draft, Assembling the Team, is exciting, hopeful...

I was disappointed when we didn't take what I believe will be the fastest LB to come in the past several years in Ogletree; I didn't think in a deep draft at Safety we needed one in the first round...

Well Kenny Vaccaro is a Saint and a Rookie; how about we slow down and let he and the other rookies be just that...Saint Rookies...

I'm looking forward to being wrong about how the Saints did in some of their selections in this year's draft...

So temper expectations and let these rookies relax, adjust and surprise...
