Former ULM receiver Brent Leonard’s dreams of playing professional football inched closer Sunday when he signed with the New Orleans Saints following the three-day rookie minicamp.Following the draft and free agency pickups, Leonard was invited to the Saints and the Dallas Cowboys minicamps.
The receiver decided the Saints would be the best opportunity because they did not invite as many receivers, and it seemed to pay off. The next step for the receiver will be to make the Saints’ roster. “It starts with all the people I have to thank – my entire family, my friends and some of the fans that I have out there,” Leonard said. “God has blessed me with the opportunity to do something I truly love. Words can’t express how thankful I am for Him and all that He has done. I’m excited to keep this process going. I’m just trying to take it a day at a time.” Leonard said the minicamp resembled ULM’s fall camp with two-a-days on Friday and Saturday with most of the practice used on installing plays and formations. “The difficult part was trying to retain all of the different things they were throwing at us,” Leonard said. “I think they liked the fact that I’m familiar with playing in the slot, but I can still play outside.” After walking on to the ULM team in 2008, Leonard finished his career as the school’s all-time career receptions leader with 209 and was the first player to grab 80 or more passes in a single season with 104 receptions in 2012. As a senior, Leonard tallied 1,118 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. http://www.thenewsstar.com/article/2...nclick_check=1 |

Re: Leonard inks with Saints
I doubt he will make the final roster, but could make the practice squad.

Re: Leonard inks with Saints
I watched at least 3 ULM warhawks games personally last year, and this kid was everywhere. Good hands. Clutch hands. But did seem to take some pretty big hits. Hope he's durable. I like him
