Saints' fan fined, banned from games for one year

NEW ORLEANS -- A fan who ran onto the field during a New Orleans Saints' game and tried to sign a San Francisco player's jersey got the max -- a $500 fine and no Saints tickets for a year.

Otis Henry, 50, of New Roads, originally had been booked with trespassing, but pleaded "no contest'' this month to disturbing the peace.

Municipal Court Judge John Shea put him on probation for a year, and said he may not attend Saints games during that time.

He also ordered 60 hours of community service for Shea, whose fine is the highest possible for disturbing the peace, and imposed a gag order forbidding media interviews while he is on probation.

The judge suspended a five-month jail term for Henry and ordered him to check in regularly with his probation officer until he pays the fine.

Henry ran onto the field late in the fourth quarter and tried to autograph the jersey of 49ers center Jeremy Newberry. He had been on the field for several minutes before anyone realized that he didn't belong there.

He dodged a New Orleans police officer but was tackled by a San Francisco security officer as he ran to the sideline. Police then subdued him and led him off the field.

"He had a ball-point pen and was trying to sign my shirt,'' Newberry said at the time. "He could have stabbed me or something. How did he get out there untouched?''

Police spokesman Capt. Marlon Defillo said Henry told police he acted on a bet -- a "dare for money.''

\"He had a ball-point pen and was trying to sign my shirt,\'\' Newberry said at the time....see, there\'s the problem. He shoulda had a Sharpie. Them he could\'ve gotten a deal like TO did with Sharpie.

He was just trying to show some love to frisco...the dude needed a hug.
