Some Saints players no one is talking about
Our army of reporters has exhaustively covered the New Orleans Saints' organized team activities this offseason and minicamp workouts so it's likely every player on the 89-man roster has been discussed or mentioned at some point.
Some players, though, are more high profile than others. Here are a few that might be flying under the radar that have stood out to me during workouts: 1. Corey White: All eyes have been on rookie safety Kenny Vacarro and free-agent cornerback Keenan Lewis in the secondary but the second-year corner from Samford has looked extremely polished. He's carrying himself more confidently in his second season and is going to be in the mix for playing time at cornerback. White has the size (6 feet 1, 205 pounds) and physical strength new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan likes in his defensive backs. He's looked as good as any defensive back on the roster this offseason. 2. A.J. Davis: Another young cornerback the Saints like. Saints officials were high on Davis during training camp but an injury derailed his rookie season. He's healthy again and definitely looks the part at 6 feet, 183 pounds. Right now he's running on the third team defense, but he looks like an excellent developmental prospect. 3. Eric Olsen: A former sixth-round draft pick of the Denver Broncos, Olsen has quietly developed into the Saints' top interior backup lineman. Currently he's working as the backup center behind Brian de la Puente. Essentially, he's one snap away from starting at center or either guard spot. 4. Rafael Bush: He's in a battle with Isa Abdul-Quddus for the fifth safety spot and might hold the edge because of his excellent special teams skills. 5. Travaris Cadet: The forgotten man in the backfield, he's the heir apparent to Darren Sproles' satellite back role. He's looked every bit as good as he did in training camp a year ago. 6. Saalim Hakim: The ultimate long shot. He signed with the Saints late last season and flew under the radar on the practice squad, before being promoted to the active roster for the final two games. A second-year wide receiver, Hakim has opened eyes with his explosive speed and athleticism. He's buried in the depth chart behind a host of veterans and recent draft picks but Hakim looks like a solid bet to stick on the practice squad -- or maybe even better.[/quote] ]Some New Orleans Saints players no one is talking about | NOLA.com More good stuff. |
