Falcons Have History of Dominating Saints

When you have to go back 40 YEARS!!! to try and make a relative point you have failed!!
*********************************************************
No one can wait for the August 8th season opener to the New Orleans saints. It’ll be a spectacular opening day after a long offseason full of interesting management moves. Not only would it finally be the first football game in months, but it will be against the saints. (I refuse to follow proper grammatical procedures when spelling out the saints’ name because in no way do I believe that that noun is proper.)

Since 1966, the Falcons have opened up the season against the saints five separate times. Every single time the falcons have won. Most of the time, the Falcons have won dominantly.

The biggest game of those five games was in 1973. The Atlanta Falcons beat the saints 62-7. That game was the biggest margin of victory in the history of the series.

Of course I don’t want to predict the Falcons to win 60-0, although it would be nice. I don’t think the falcons will lose regardless of where the game takes place. The answer is to a saints team trending the opposite direction the Falcons are. Every year Matt Ryan is getting better. Drew Brees is NOT by any means getting worse, but he certainly isn’t getting better. He already hit his peek and whether or not he is declining from his peek, we have already seen the best of Drew Brees. Their offense is always explosive. Their defense, on the other hand, is troubling. They were historically bad last season allowing tons of yards and points. I have no doubt that the addition to Rob Ryan and the switch to a 3-4 defense will help them in the long run, this season is not the season.

They could not have picked a worse time to make a scheme change. When a team moves from the 4-3 to the 3-4, they either have bigger, slower defensive ends play outside linebacker, or faster, weaker linebackers take on the position. Their pass rush will barely be visible. They lacked corners and went after a safety in the draft. I actually think that the saints defense may be worse than last year. If it’s better, it won’t be by much. As good as the saints offense may be, their defense won’t be able to slow down the falcons new and improved passing and rushing attack.

That is as relevant as saying the 49ers have 5 superbowls, yeah you won 5 superbowls.........in the 80 and 90's

Re: Falcons Have History of Dominating Saints

The only valid point he has, and its kinda weak at that, is that it will take some time for this defense to all get on the same page.

They might be able to exploit it, but one could also say that there's an element of surprise that factors in our favor as well. They don't know what to expect. We'll have a lot of new faces and new packages that may confuse them.

Using data from an era that includes ZERO current players is like claiming Cleveland should be awesome this year because of the Jim Brown era.

They're not very realistic. The Falcons have new starters at 3 spots on the O-Line, nothing but a washed-up Umenyiora on the D-Line, and 2 rookie corners to go with Asante Samuel. Their defense and O-Line looks pretty damn questionable to me.

Well he starts off as a dumb donkey by saying season opener August when it's September and he gets worst.

IDK, don't they check references before letting just any slappy post on their blogosphere? This guy (Robert Stephens, blogger-extraordinaire) doesn't seem like he's too bright,.

worst defense in history last year, the Falcons lost the 1st game, and won by 10 pts on the 2nd game after Brees throws like 5 ints.

It seems no matter how bad the Saints play, Falcons cannot win in dominant fashion if they win at all.

So the Falcons are going to come into the Dome for the the season opener with Payton's first game back and all the bountygate crap behind us, against a Saint team with worst defense ever last year and everything to prove this year, and win? WOW, that may be the biggest load I have I have ever heard.
I the Falcons did come in and win, it would be because the Saints just don't show up at all. And certainly that case could be argued adter the Redskins season opener last year. I anticipate this game to be alot like the the 06 falcon game energy wise.

They have 2 rookie corners behind Samuel, don't they?

Damn right! Actually, we can break it down even more. Their front seven only has one real good player: Sean Weatherspoon. Osi Umenyiora is washed up, Kroy Biermann is busy learning his lines for the next episode of "The Real Housewives" and their DT's are inconsequential. Yes they have 2 good safeties, but they'll need them covering for the mistakes of rookie CB's.

Not to mention, they have 2 new starters on their O-Line...

Re: Falcons Have History of Dominating Saints

Just a few quick points,
1. I don't normally mention grammar but this guy is a writer and doesn't know the difference between "peek" and peak, much less pique. Once is a typo, twice in the same sentence is lack of knowledge.
2. The only time a falcon fan is bright is when he is illuminated in the baleful glare of an APD cruiser as he is dragged out of his car, forced to lie face down on the pavement and handcuffed.
3. While they do have the advatage in the series, two crappy teams, with one winning more than the other doesn't exactly make me think of domination. I mean its not as if one of us were knocking the other out of a division championship or something.
4. And lastly this, falcon fans wish they had the kind of loyal devoted fanbase the Saints have. I roll into Lousianna on gameday and I know I"m in Saint's country. Saint's car flags, stickers, people in jerseys everywhere etc. I roll into Ga. or even atlanta on gameday and I might as well be peoria or timbuktu. Might see one or two falcon things and believe me I"m looking for them. They are so lame and their jealousy shows.

The Falcon fans have a reason to be optimistic because of a decent season they had with taking the division but they don't have a realistic thought on this new season upcoming game, they all assume apparently saints will continue on this post bounty downfall, i bet a lot of them didn't even realize we didn't have our head coach a real defense coordinator a GM or an assistant coach but let them carry on and let them get blessed by our boys when that time comes.

It doesn't surprise me that a falcon fan wouldn't notice all of this but I think a lot of people don't grasp last season for us. I mean we went 7-9 with all of the factors you mentioned and several of those losses were games we could have won not to mention this was all done with the worst defensive performance in the history of the NFL. What does this idiot think is going to happen with Peyton back and a somewhat if not greatly improved defense. I can't wait for the season to start.
