New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis is looking forward to 2013 after a really tough season last year.

Head coach Sean Payton returns and some neccessary changes have been made. Now it's time to forget all about the dismal showing in 2012 and show the league that the Saints still have a solid team and will find success again.

“I think it’s important, there’s no question about it, but we are also kidding ourselves if we expect him to walk in the building and everything be different," he said of Payton's return, via “The Black and Blue Report” show, via the team's website. "All of us, myself included, our players, our assistant coaches, our entire building, we have to do our jobs better. It’s not just all on him and not all his responsibility. We have to do a better job than we did a year ago if we are going to have a different result and so, yes, it is important to have him back but it is more important that all of us do a better job than we did a year ago.”

Training camp opens on Thursday, and Loomis is excited to see players and coaches get to work. "We have a lot to prove here, we have a bad taste in our mouth over the way our season went a year ago," he said. "so we are looking to prove that was an anomaly and that we are a better team than that.”

"A Veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life."

All 32 NFL teams are in the same boat. It's a new year and we start off 0-0. We have as much to prove as everyone else.

Off topic, but reminds me... Why do sportscaster now combine stats from two seasons and call it a "streak"?

It's never the same players or even coaches for that matter. I think its silly.
