If there's one thing a coach doesn't want to see, it's player injuries during practice. Unfortunately for New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, the fourth day of team training camp brought with it several injuries to key members of the team. Saints linebacker Martez Wilson highlights the list of players who returned to the locker room early on Monday after suffering what Payton described as an elbow injury after practice. Wilson was seen walking off the field with trainers holding his left arm after failing to make a tackle during team drills. Payton said they're going to evaluate Wilson, but doesn't think it will be anything significant. If Wilson were to sustain a serious injury, he would be the second outside linebacker hurt this summer after Victor Butler injured his left knee during OTA practices. Payton didn't say who would fill Wilson's shoes if the worst were to happen, but said some of the younger linebackers are receiving time rotating through the position. "(Chase Thomas and Eric Martin) are getting their reps," Payton said. "We're going three groups right now, so a lot of these guys are getting plenty of work. At some point -- 2-3 weeks from now -- we'll reduce those reps." New Orleans also experienced a flurry of heat-related injuries as the heat index reached 106 degrees at the Metairie practice facility. Saints wide receiver Saalim Hakim was carted of the field after experiencing what Saints wide receivers coach Henry Ellard described as heat cramps. "When you've got those massive calf muscles like that sometimes you get a hot day and it tends to happen," Ellard said. "He just has to stay hydrated to make sure he's able to finish out practices." Hakim is expected to be back at practice tomorrow. Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive lineman Tom Johnson both left the field during 7-on-7 drills as well, but returned to practice shortly after. Wide receiver Marques Colston, cornerback Patrick Robinson and linebacker Victor Butler all remained on the physically unable to play list during Monday's practice. Wide receiver Jarred Fayson also spent his fourth consecutive day on the sidelines after experiencing dehydration from Thursday's conditioning test. Re: Martez Wilson hurt
Already thin at LB, this could suck, he's not going to trust his Elbow for a few weeks at least.

As long as we don't have any significant injuries at CB it will be a good camp.

Last time sean payton said an injury wasnt serious it turned out to be an ACL tear, hope martez gets healthy quickly
|
Re: Martez Wilson hurt
I do hope it is not significant, because the Saints ill afford to lose Wilson with Butler already gone for the season.

Not good... I am worried he'll look rusty to start the season. Question is who do you go with if he is too rusty? |

And it gives some of the younger guys a chance to shine; we may have found a gem with Eric Martin. He has impressed |

Re: Martez Wilson hurt
Alright, so Martez will be ok for the start of the regular season... But now we're on our 3rd Sam LB so I'll just say thank god we landed some great undrafted free-agent LB's. Everybody's gonna get 1st team reps now and that can only help both the players and coaches in deciding who will stick around.

I'm hearing how he is throwing many things in, new things every day.... Isn't that along the lines of the lesson he learned to not to at Dallas? Too complex.... Wants that a Spags problem also? |
Re: Martez Wilson hurt
What bout hawthorn anything from him ?

Spags problem was he didn't allow the players to make on field adjustments. At least that's what Vilma and Lofton both have alluded to in their pressers. Everything was exact and they had to play it the same every-time, whether it was working or not. |
Re: Martez Wilson hurt
Jeez cut a man a break. COLSTON what happened to COLSTON?
Side note, I did a personal chef/catering job for Golf Digest magazine during the Masters on year. Got to see lots of pro golfers and sports commentators. I met Bob Costas and he was a complete douche. He was down right rude to my staff as he acted like he was so above everyone. He refused to sign autographs for any children that asked him. |

Not too serious |

That being said, if you recall.. The Players didn't say anything last season until it was completely over. |

Re: Martez Wilson hurt
Saints linebacker Martez Wilson will miss 2-4 weeks after sustaining a left elbow injury, according to a league source. Wilson will miss some crucial time in training camp as the new 3-4 defensive scheme is still being installed, but he should be back for Week 1 judging by the timetable.
Wilson left Monday morning's practice after trying to make tackle in the backfield. He walked off the field with a trainer holding his left arm. The Saints are already missing outside linebacker Victor Butler, who sustained a torn ACL during organized team activities. Re: Martez Wilson hurt, out 2-4 weeks
Keep calm, gents. If there were ever an "ok" time to sustain a minor injury it would be NOW. Four weeks from today is the day after Preseason Game 3. Worst case scenario he still gets a few days of practice and a preseason game under his belt before the real thing opens up. :-) I'm trying on a new suit this year. It's called "Optimism". Ha

No need to press the Panic button.

Re: Martez Wilson hurt, out 2-4 weeks
I thought we had plenty of linebackers now all of a sudden I don't feel so good with Butler down and wilson out a few weeks.
|
Re: Martez Wilson hurt, out 2-4 weeks
This is good news, 2-4 weeks mean he will be back before the opener.
