Maltos

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I will admit that I get a little nervous sometimes, but Hartley is 60 of 71 FGs over his career. That's almost 85%. He's missed one extra point. He's not bad. I just lost a little confidence in him when ...

That % is skewed as he was on Adderall the only season he had 100%. 81.2 is his true career average and that puts him at 29th in the league. 81.2% sounds good until you compare him with the rest of the league.
NFL Career Field Goal % Leaders - Pro-Football-Reference.com

Out of 80 possibly regular season games in his 5 year career he has participated in 43.... We have had to have another kicker the other 37 games.. nearly half the time... Thus he is a health liability.

Ill frame it this way between 2010 and 2012 he only played in 6 more games than Chris Ivory. Hartley averages playing in 8.6 games a season.

Re: Maltos

I'd rather have a kicker that misses some kicks and comes through in the clutch than vice versa. Hartley has missed huge kicks at the end of the game that are back breakers. For kickers, it does all come down to 1 play.

But he has also made some huge kicks during some big-time games as well. NFCC in OT against the Vikes comes to mind. Or how about the Super-bowl when he hit 5 from 40+ or whatever that record was...

The question mark everyone has in their heads is how did he do that and then miss the clutch kicks the next 2 seasons? Doesn't make sense. ATL kick 2 years ago...big miss from very short range. GB and KC last year...we make the playoffs.

Re: Maltos

Hartley scares the crap out of me every time he steps on the field. It's like knowing Chuck Norris is going to hit you with a spinning heel kick.............not knowing when it's coming is the scary part.

Re: Maltos

I didn't even touch on the impact of his misses.

I will cover a few things I covered last year for those that missed it.

I do not include his Adderall rookie season.

These are situational and you tell me if they do not throw up red flags.

30-39 yard kicks 76%
40-49 yard kicks 76.2 %
50+ yard kicks 71.4%

Home accuracy in our Dome 71% at home
Turf accuracy 79.6%
Grass Accuracy 84.1%

We are a Dome Team that has a kicker that kicks better on grass away... WTF?

50+ yard kicks I am not concerned with but between 30-50 yards this kid is 76.1% in the last 4 seasons.

As far as the hi profile kicks he has made... He is supposed to.... That is his one job, put it between the uprights, he doesn't miss because of length he misses because of inconsistency.

In 2009 his longest kick was 38 yards... Any NFL kicker should make 38 yard field goals all day long.

The biggest problem is that he doesn't play in 45% of the games he is supposed to thus causing us to have to carry two FG kickers.
