Re: Saints new WR...Patrick Crayton #86
This is very worrisome. This isn't like signing TO. Crayton didn't do crap in Dallas. Why on earth with all our receivers are we getting another has been like Breaston???

Doesn't hurt to take a look; it's not like they have made the final 53 yet

Re: Saints new WR...Patrick Crayton #86
Makes sense when you think about it...
Look... You're trying out four quarterbacks, well three, and with the WR's they aren't all named Colston... So you try to get the rest of the wide receiver group as close in level of talent so that you're comparing "apples to apples"... ...if the No. 2 QB is throwing to the No. 2 WR, and so on, then you don't know if the No. 4 really is the No. 4 because he only has the No. 7-8 WRs... ...this way you're throwing to experienced guys and you get a better sense of how your QB's really are... ...plus you've got more experience around the younger receivers... ...hey, there's reasons why Payton has had the best offense in the land these past few years... |

Perhaps you can trojan horse their agenda for us? BTTT: I think Payton is loading up on receivers because all of our WR's have a history of being frequently injured. Its wise to have 2 or 3 sitting around waiting for a call if one of our guys goes down for a few weeks. I'm relieved that we didn't go after an OLB recently. It shows me the Galette and Wilson injuries are probably very minor. |
Re: Saints new WR...Patrick Crayton #86
I think it's a very "Year One" type of move. It shows you that nothing is set in stone, and Payton is NOT content to just roll with whatever we have been doing in the past. Payton said he was going to approach this year like it was 2006 all over again.
Also, any of these veteran guys could get cut and then come back off the couch later, if we get into a disastrous Ladell Betts/Julius Jones type of situation like we did with RB's in 2010. If God forbid we need a receiver in November, any of these guys will at least know some of the terminology and have a familiarity with the team and its coaching staff etc. So it can't hurt. The most frustrating part to me of watching Ladell Betts wasn't that he was not our first string running back, which was bad enough; it was those plays where Drew would call the play in the huddle, then they'd break, then Drew would lean in to Bett's ear and translate the play to him in English, and point and show him where to line up, after the huddle. Having all these veteran receivers in camp might help with that type of stuff later, if the Doomsday scenario ever comes to pass. |
Re: Saints new WR...Patrick Crayton #86
Which is a good call on Paytons part to do a little do-over... Watching from the couch gave him the same perspective we have... The ability to guess not only what type of play is going to be run but who and where...

Re: Saints new WR...Patrick Crayton #86
Crayton was brought in because the Saints are not very deep at WR this year. Yes, there are some very good young prospects like Toon, Stills, and Tanner, but they are just that, prospects. After you get past starters Moore and Colston, there really isn't all that much to get excited about just yet.
With Morgan going down for the year, it is almost a sure bet that at least one of these cast offs, Breaston, Crayton, or Parker, will make it. |

I do think Parker makes it though, if he's proven to Sean he can stay clean and sober. |
