Re: Saints and Mississippi go way, way back . . .
I knew this already, after attending training camp at Millsaps in '06 and '07, but he added some stories that are new to me.
I want to thank people in Mississippi for their support of the Saints, and in fact, they deserve a chunk of the credit for saving the team in '06. Half my section in the Dome are Mississippians, including some of the more colorful (dancing old men) characters. The offensive tackle who sits in the Terrace next to me, in our seats designed for teenaged anorexics, used to drive from Vicksburg. Millsaps was an amazing experience for me and my kids, and I was blown away by the local folks love for the Saints. I've said it before, but if I owned the team, I'd still do training camp in Jackson, I'd have always play one preseason game in MS, perhaps rotating college stadiums, (The other in Shreveport) and the uniforms would have a Louisiana patch one one arm, a Mississippi patch on the other. - big salute to our MS posters. |

Re: Saints and Mississippi go way, way back . . .
Being from MS, myself; the Saints have always been apart of my life. That, and LSU.
Whenever I talk about dedication to people I always use my favorite sports teams. This is how I show my dedication to people. Since the day I was born I have known 3 things: 1. LSU Football 2. The New Orleans Saints 3. The Atlanta Braves Now, I was born in 1972, and if you know anything about these teams from the 70's to the early 90's, that's a lot of losing. I never faultered or swayed in my love for these teams. Dedication? No. Love? I think it's more than that. Now that I have been married awhile, I can compare it to a marriage. There are bad times and there are great times. And during all those losing years I always found something in a game that made me smile and be proud of these "brides" of mine. Loyalty is a word I don't think too many people really understand. It is a powerful word and once you have it and really understand it, it is a hard thing to break. No mater if you go through losing seasons that combined equal to 90 years. That Loyalty has paid off. Not just because I have finally lived to see all of my team become National or World Champions. But because I have and am passing that loyalty onto my children. But the Championships help a little . |
