Such insight.

Rotting lunchmeat has a better storyline.

Are these two guys getting paid?

xan, I wish for once you would just come out and state your position instead of constantly equivocating.

Re: Five good questions with New Orleans Saints blogger

I still dont get why so many reporters feel we are trying to force a team of 4-3 personnel into a 3-4 system.
The front three looks far more suited to a 3-4.Plenty og question marks over the LB byt thats not been helped by injuries to many starters. Will Smith wasnt producing at DE either and most likely won't start at OLB.With limited cap space it was always going to take two offseasons to get the right mix of players. But looking past this season and 3-4 defense with a front three of Hicks-Jenkins and Jordan looks very disruptive and if Foster, Johnson, Walker can provide good rotation then that is a talented front thsts best years are ahead of them.
Add another young CB/FS next year and its not the worst group to be moving forward with. The big question is at LB but again next years draft could fix sone issues.
Next years draft is ideal for the Saints imo, some great talent there at position that are not at the top of the needs table. It could easily lead to players slipping at positions of need.

Butler, Hicks, Jordan, Galette, JJenkins, Coleman, Reddick, Foster, and Wilson are all better suited for a 3-4 than a 4-3.

Bunkley, TJohnson, Walker, CThomas, Richardson, RJohnson, Martin, and Hawthorne are suited for either.

The only players we have that I think are better suited for a 4-3 are Smith, Vilma, Lofton, and Herring.

Well everything we read about Smith trying to play LB is certainly consistent.

I would think that Lofton would have an easier time in the 3-4, seeing as how he would have less coverage assignments...

I think the SAM, MIKE and WILL all have basically the same coverage responsibilities in either set don't they?

The SOLB will be in charge of the outside of the TE on running plays and will normally either blitz or be manned up on the TE in pass plays.

The SILB will blitz around 20-25% of the time on pass plays but normally cover an underneath zone, while in the run game is only responsible for the strong-side "B"-gap.

The WILB is covering the middle of the field in a zone on pass plays usually and will be blitzing only about 5-10% of the time. His job in the run game is to be the only guy covering 2 gaps. He is responsible for both the "A" gap in the run game, as well as cleaning up the "B"-gap if the DE decides to go to the outside shoulder of the OT in the run game.

The WOLB's job is to take care of the weak-outside, and is normally the best pass rusher on the team. He will normally be the guy who will be making the most sacks, and blitzes over 50% of the time in the passing game.

Ryan only dropped his LBs in coverage 20% of the time last year, he likes to drop a 3rd safety(Vaccaro) in the box to cover...
