After watching the replay carefully, it remains to be seen if there is any improvement over lay season.

The overwhelming concern is that there is not enough talent or experience at linebacker.

Lots of mistakes and missed assignments that a real offense would exploit.

Lastly, the offensive line depth is going to be increasingly problematic.


The Raiders are barely a second tier SEC squad.

We have allowed 55 rush yards per game - good for 3rd in the ranking

It might be too early to tell how good we could be, but no improvement? Not at all, there is a big improvement

You are right. This team has no talent on either side of the ball. This is all a mirage.

We'll rue the day we fired Spags and lost Bushrod, Shanle, Dunbar, Meachem, Henderson, Ellis, McBride, and Chase Daniel.

We are a clueless bunch of no talent morons. We'll be lucky to win 6 games.

Xan was seriously unimpressed with the Superbowl victory against the Colts.
We really played poorly in that game. Lack of explosive offense, the onsides kick was out of desperation, painkillers and marijuana were not allowed in the stadium. Tisk tisk!

The next game against the Texans will give a better indication of where the 2013 defense is. I feel comfortable saying it's much better than the 2012 defense. The uncertainty/injuries at LB is a concern. Harper and Jenkins are what they are. The young dline is looking very good. Vaccaro is the real deal. All of the players seem to love Ryan's scheme. Plus, with their offense and the Head Coach being back, the defense doesn't have to be great for the Saints to win.

We played a Raiders team with a new starting QB and their left tackle is done... Let's temper our enthusiasm people. Wait until after the game against the Texans next week to heap all this praise on our defense.

No it's not... Not in the preseason. Especially not against awful competition. If we play as well next week against the Texans then I'll be impressed but everyone's getting hyped over beating a garbage team... We're getting better but let's see how we look against great players.

They've been giving the Saints offense problems all training camp as well.

And "getting better" is really all any of us expect at this point.

If you are going to make blanket unfounded statements, at least make them remotely accurate. I don't recall anyone mentioning the score or winning.

First of all-I hear a lot of "its only preseason", like players are out there playing like they're in the pro bowl. Those boys are playing hard...some are trying to win a job, and some are playing to try and keep their job. To think that there is no improvement is ludicrous.....7 sacks!! C'mon man!! And to think that a couple of our key starters were not even in the game- how can you not get excited about that!
Secondly- is it just me or are we finally actually f***ing tackling people!!

But at least we tackled in both games... Not a lot of leaky yardage.
That was the main problem for me last year. We'll get more pressure this year, but not much.
Hey, when you're the worst defense ever... it's almost impossible not to get better.

I kinda liked what I saw Friday night. It was a real imporovment over the first game. Other than losing yardage on first down running plays, I thought Drew and company played pretty well. I think the real test will be this weekend against the texans. I'll withhold judgement until I see that game.

What in the world makes you think "we'll get more pressure this year, but not much."?

No scheming, man-on-man, and our players are bowling over O linemen. What have you seen in these first two games that gives you any indication what-so-ever that we will struggle to get pressure?

I understand it's silly to think we'll carry on into the regular season exactly as is. Obviously, we'll meet some force pushing back against us. However, what have you seen in these first two games that sends off signals that we will fail at getting a pass rush?

Just because it was against the Raiders doesn't mean it can't be done on tougher teams. (It's not like it failed against the Raiders.) Will it be harder against tougher teams, sure, but I'm curious to know why you don't think we'll be successful rushing the QB.

I mean the Raiders are not very good and their Oline stinks, but we didn't really do anything fancy. Even when we brought Harper I still think we only rushed 4. I am not sure we really did any blitzing so that is impressive.

Cam Jordan is going to be very good. KV is really going to be good. I expect some growing pains, but that kid has nice instincts. Lewis is an upgrade at corner.

I think we have more talent than we have ever had under SP. My main concern is oline. I am scared to death if chuck goes down and with his history you almost wait for when. He could be very good if he stays healthy. Strief must be healthy because he looks good on the other side.

Man oh man is it me or is Stills a steal and how about Toon. Loving it.

I think Vilma is done. Good guy and was our best defensive player for a few years. Hope he gives us one more good one, but I don't expect him here next year. And what is with Humber, wow.

I dunno guys, Im with Xan on this one. One thing he forgot to mention is how ugly the saintsations were and how the waving of the pom poms were just flailing all over the place. If they dont tighten up, I'm gonna have to go down there in my wife beater and speedo and show these broads how its done.

Agreed. I know "it's only preseason" and they are not running the full scheme, but the 610 Stompers SMOKED the Saintsations at halftime of the Chiefs game!

Pretty much how I feel...

Not at all liking what I'm seeing at Outside Linebacker, though the middle and front line looks better; Vaccaro has looked great, though I'd still prefered a game breaker at Outside Linebacker...

I think Wilson and/or Galette could be that game-breaker... And hopefully we see more of the same from Humber, be nice if he stays that dominant on the inside.
