New Orleans Saints have had contact with wide receiver Devery Henderson
 

In need of some help, the New Orleans Saints have had what the National Football Post is calling ‘very cursory contact’ with wide receiver Devery Henderson. Henderson of course spent the first nine seasons of his NFL career with the Saints before signing with the Washington Redskins earlier this offseason. That relationship didn’t last very long though as Henderson was continually dropped down the depth chart, eventually resulting in his release.

However, despite Henderson’s need for a job and the Saints need for a wide receiver, a reunion is far from guaranteed.

There has been some very cursory contact between the Saints and representatives for wide receiver Devery Henderson, who played his first nine years in New Orleans before signing with Washington this spring as a free agent, and who was released last week. But it’s not a given yet that Henderson, 31, will rejoin the club with which he entered the NFL, and which perhaps could use a deep threat because of the recent knee injury to Joseph Morgan. A Saints official said the club is “checking out some things” on Henderson, but the interest isn’t huge yet. A former second-rounder, Henderson started just nine games and had only 22 receptions in 2012. Both were his lowest totals since 2007. The New Orleans coaches might still want to get more of a handle on young wide receivers such as Kenny Stills, Nick Toon, and Hakim Saalim before reaching for a veteran.

We're in need of some help?? That's news to me! Having guys battle for the 5th WR spot isn't exactly being in need of help.

I like Devery but we honestly don't need him i think we got too many as it is. His production has been going down, Sean needs to let the young guys play and get experience and shine. They seem to have a lot of promise.

Only if injuries decimate our WR corps. And even then, I am not so sure as there are plenty of cheaper faster talents waiting to get a chance to catch passes from Brees.

I think its a good idea. Bring him in for the rest of camp and let him get acclimated to any scheme changes while getting in shape and rythem then cut him during final cuts. If someone goes down in the middle of the season he can step right in. Doesnt look like anyone else is beating down his door so it is fairly likely he will be available.

Devery is great for some TD's and pass patterns where he's basically either not being covered or he burns his coverage. If he needs a job, why not sign him for the league minimum and let him compete?

I like that Devery developed and was a great local contribution to the Saints...

But the limit of 53 roster spots doesn't leave a lot of room for error going into the NFL season...
