I don't think there has ever been any question about our O-line not creating holes for him or whatever. I do however think that a RB needs consistency. We kept giving Robinson the ball and he kept delivering. When have we EVER, in ANY game done that for Ingram. I genuinely think Ingram has trade value because, injuries aside, if he was getting as much consistency and as many carries as someone like a Trent Richardson, you easily have a 1200+ yard 10TD runner there. Easily. We just do not play that system. And before anyone says 'What about Robinson then', maybe the kid is just better at getting less of a consistent drag in the game. And maybe that is why he is better suited to our offense. Don't sleep on Ingram. Trust me. |

Re: Khiry Robinson has to make the team, he's just gotta
Im not sleeping on him, Im snoring on him....... but it's not all his fault. He is never gonna pay off as much as we would want him to simply because of where he was drafted. Saints fans expect this dude to be Emmit Smith.... and he's never gonna be that without the ball. He needs touches which we don't have in abundance because of the amount of RBs who can do more with less and the fact we air it out so much!!! What's crazy is this preseason I've seen him used in a way I had never before in his Saints career so I am open to giving him the opportunity. Also If it's Khiry or Cadet.... I gotta take the upside and that's Khiry.... Cadet really hasn't shown out.... Hell he didn't show out enough to make the team to me last season...

Re: Khiry Robinson has to make the team, he's just gotta
Haha. Ok ok. I guess the reason I feel I want to defend Ingram a little more is that he really isn't as bad as people would make out. He is not in a system that plays to his strengths.
You are absolutely right in that you get more for less from players like Sproles and Thomas. You don't have to keep giving them the ball every down and they still squirt off 5 and 10 yard runs, catches out of the backfield, screen plays etc etc. But we do need a strong power back who we lean on a little more.... And of course everyone will now say 'Hey that's Khiry Robinson' and you know what, it just may be. In the grand scheme of things, Ingram is not a massive cap hit and is worth having on that roster for sure. If Robinson is kept, continues to play and develop like he has shown and Ingram cannot continue to fit into this scheme then it's trade or cut very soon (I believe this is year 3 of a 4 year contract he is now entering). |

There is absolutely zero empirical data to justify that giving Ingram more carries per game will increase his YPC, it actually shows the opposite. 2012 games with 15+ carries 3.3 YPC 2011 Games with 15+ carries 3.3 YPC 2011 YPC ave 3.9 2012 YPC ave 3.9 2013 Preseason YPC ave Career average 3.9 A first round draft pick that as the numbers show no matter what way you look at it is a 3.9 YPC back is a bust. Other backs in the same performance ball park BenJarvus Green-Ellis 3.9-4.0 YPC (Undrafted) Jacquizz Rodgers 3.9 YPC (5th round) Why are we down on Mark Ingram? Because he was a wasted 1st round pick after 2 seasons. Now, he had no head coach in 2012 and no camp in 2011 so quite a few of us are waiting to see if he makes a change in 2013.. Right now we are down on him, if he doesn't have a better season this year we are calling for his head. DeMarco Murray same draft class but went in the 3rd round 4.8 YPC ave |
