He has far more upside than any RB on the roster,as others have said unlike Ingram he seems to be able to come into the team for a coupleof plays and produce without the need for extended carries. Its like having Ivory there on a regular basis, bring him on for the breakout big play.Ivory set the tone in that game against the Falcons last season.

Re: Khiry Robinson has to make the team, he's just gotta

I lost respect for Ingram last night. After he got stuffed behind the line, in his disgust, he tossed the ball in the air, showing-up the oline and the team. I'm glad coach left him in with the 4th teamers.

You are absolutely right in that you get more for less from players like Sproles and Thomas. You don't have to keep giving them the ball every down and they still squirt off 5 and 10 yard runs, catches out of the backfield, screen plays etc etc. But we do need a strong power back who we lean on a little more....

And of course everyone will now say 'Hey that's Khiry Robinson' and you know what, it just may be. In the grand scheme of things, Ingram is not a massive cap hit and is worth having on that roster for sure. If Robinson is kept, continues to play and develop like he has shown and Ingram cannot continue to fit into this scheme then it's trade or cut very soon (I believe this is year 3 of a 4 year contract he is now entering).
In the NFL you earn what you get. Your power backs are your 3rd down backs and your goal line backs... Ingram is out side of the top 25 on both. To give a back more carries that is averaging less than 4 YPC and is no higher than 71st in the league more carries is a lesson in futility and doesn't help either developing your run game or passing game.

There is absolutely zero empirical data to justify that giving Ingram more carries per game will increase his YPC, it actually shows the opposite.

2012 games with 15+ carries 3.3 YPC
2011 Games with 15+ carries 3.3 YPC

2011 YPC ave 3.9
2012 YPC ave 3.9
2013 Preseason YPC ave
Career average 3.9

A first round draft pick that as the numbers show no matter what way you look at it is a 3.9 YPC back is a bust.

Other backs in the same performance ball park
BenJarvus Green-Ellis 3.9-4.0 YPC (Undrafted)
Jacquizz Rodgers 3.9 YPC (5th round)

Why are we down on Mark Ingram? Because he was a wasted 1st round pick after 2 seasons.

Now, he had no head coach in 2012 and no camp in 2011 so quite a few of us are waiting to see if he makes a change in 2013.. Right now we are down on him, if he doesn't have a better season this year we are calling for his head.

DeMarco Murray same draft class but went in the 3rd round 4.8 YPC ave

Yea that was BS.. I was waiting for a flag on that one... people ask why we are frustrated with Ingram? Well ask him why he is frustrated with him self.

After what I have seen of Ingram for the last 2 years, and Robinson this preseason and from what I know of all of our backs...

If we are 3rd and 2 against the Falcons next Sunday the ball either goes to PT or Robinson.. Anything else will have me being an unhappy camper.

I am an Alabama fan and loved him in college.............here, not so much. I am beginning to think that he's a bit of a punk. I prefer my athletes to be more humble.

I've defended Ingram and I still believe if you give him the ball 20-25 times a game, he will be very productive. But, it seems if the hole isn't there, he really struggles at creating and finding some yardage. Robinson can play in the NFL. However, on the Saints roster, he's going to have to find a way to play on special teams.

Re: Khiry Robinson has to make the team, he's just gotta

Y'all are kidding me right ? The same Ingram that had a 30 yarder on a 3rd and 1 against the texans starting defense ? The same one that nearly broke it for a TD on a screen in the same game ? The same Ingram that ran over two poor Miami defenders for TD ... Kids a stud were just too soft offensively to get much out of him ... Robinson is legit but Ingram I can't let go especially When we basically refuse to give him touches and expect Adrian Peterson to somehow emerge ... There's no way I'm giving him up after we let Reggie go too .

You Can't Say Impossible without first saying Im Possible ...

I'd like to see Ingram play for the niners and see if he's the same bust as over here , I highly doubt it

Totally and utterly agree. He did come with a high price, what with being a first round pick but to compare him against lower drafted players is far too easy to do. On that basis, you could say Marque Colston is the best WR that ever walked the earth .... ok he is ... bad example .... but you know what I mean

I still believe that a player like Ingram who gets 15-20 carries a game, every game is no different to someone like Trent Richardson who I rate highly. In fact put Trent Richardson into our lineup, the way we play, and I wonder if his stats would be much different to those of Ingram. But he was a #3 overall pick. And he isn't being considered a bust because of the offence he plays in.

Quick aside, the ball spike in frustration did not go unnoticed and was very unprofessional. It did indeed smart of him taking it out on the O-line and that is not acceptable from ANY player.
