The Meachem Experiment in San Diego Ends This Week!

San Diego Chargers release WR Robert Meachem, who's due $5 million - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN

Spanos will be giving up 5 million on this release. Sounds like he's getting serious!

Saints fans didn't seem too upset when New Orleans let him walk. That should have said something. lol

Mixed bag. Some want him back still.

I wasn't too excited that he was leaving the Saints but no way was he worth what the Chargers gave him. That said, The Saints are solid at WR now. There's not one WR I would give up to bring Meachem back.

I think this shows just how much confidence the Saints organisation has in Mickey Loomis, Sean Payton and Drew Brees. They knew they could find a gem, who would likely be cheaper and more durable and would fit right in.

As of right now, I cannot see anyone who wouldn't want Stills, Toon, Morgan and Tanner over Meachem, and I mean comparative to what Meachem offered when he left us.

Great guy, served us well (maybe not so much as a 1st round pick but generally) and I am disappointed to see his career possibly end like this. Unfortunately, just not good enough.

True... Saints didn't use him the way the Chargers planned to. He is NOT Vincent Jackson. Stupid AJ Smith brought him in to fill Jackson's shoes. That was not going to happen.

Then there is the other problem... going from Payton to Norv. That's going to decrease anybody's career.

He might have been good if used correctly and for half the money.

Meachem has his time and his place..... So did Henderson. They both has me standing and yelling at my TV because of amazing catches. The bitter truth about the NFL is that you've got the speedsters like them and the amazing route runners and the power houses.... It seems the speedsters usually fade out first as the slightest loss in speed takes away any advantage they had.

All we ca do is wait and see if Stills can do as hoped... If he can, holy crap can you imagine Stills and Morgan scorching up both hashes next year?

Last season he just dropped too many passes that shouldn't have been dropped.

That can happen when your having to run at 115% instead of 100% and bit focused.

Then again..... Would you say that Rivers is an accurate passer? :)

Yes. There is a reason that after two bad season, Chargers fans aren't calling for his head. Had Brees stayed here, he would have had to deal with the same circus created by AJ and Norv and still would not have a ring today.

If you don't fix the offensive line and establish a running game, it doesn't matter who your quarterback is.

49 sacks in the last two seasons... That's a really bad offensive line.

At least he can afford to retire.

I don't watch much of the Chargers and most of the time it us the line... Some times it's the QB, for instance if anyone but Ben played in Pit. They would have twice the sacks... He just doesn't go down. Some fall like a bag of cats.

True but when you're going to throw deep 90% of the time, you have to have a reliable RT. As our roster got thin, Norv isn't smart enough to change up anything. He can't establish a running game to save his life.

I love our new coaching staff! Look what McCoy did with Delome, Orton, and Teabow. Whisenhunt was an amazing offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh and really revived Warner's career in Arizona.

Though we are still dangerously thin at a lot of key spots, we have the right guys in charge!

Meachem has his moments. The forced fumble the recovery for a TD in the Washington game will always stand out. Him missing his entire rookie season stands out too.

The only moment I recall him having with the Chargers was that touchdown catch in New Orleans.

Maybe he could have been good if used properly BUT he's not Vincent Jackson.
