Saints cheap shots on Matty Lice??
 

Ok taking joy in trolling the Clowns fan forums. One forum taking about a cheap shot on Ryan taken by a rookie (Vacaro?)

And another time Ryan was driven into the ground? Some of the Clown fans thought he might be injured.

I can not watch the game until it is on Rewind. Can anyone give me some insight here?

Vaccaro did get flagged, but he was already moving towards Ryan when Matt slid late...

The rest were just sacks or getting there right when he released the ball...

That win was just so sweet but yes, there was a cheap shot on Matt Ryan and I was annoyed because not only did it cost us 15 yards (well, half the distance to the goal) but I never condone anything that we would be mad about if it happened to Drew or any other of our players. And for those of you saying he was already on the way, not true. I dislike the Falcons as much as the next Who Dat but it was a cheap shot and they have a right to be peeved. It was the same I felt when, a few years ago, Roman Harper blatantly hit someone in the endzone when the ball was harmless, it cost us then too. He is a rookie but I hope the coaches tell him that that kind of play is not welcome.

It was a cheap shot, but not anything that you don't see every week. Then, on the next drive a Falcon dived and speared Sproles in the ribs with his helmet. That did not get called. After that it was pretty much open season on Matt Cryin'.

Clay Matthews' called hit on Kaep tonight was a cheap shot. Our hit on Ryan? Not so much. It looked like a hit you would see in almost any other game. Sometimes it gets called, sometimes it doesnt. Life goes on. Nothing to get your panties in a twist about.

He got flagged for it, what else do they want...suspension, forfeited game? The right call was made. He also stopped running around after that so I guess both players learned a lesson.

I wouldn't call it a cheap shot. It would have been a cheap shot if he had went in with the crown of his helmet. But if memory serves me and it more times than not doesn't, Vacarro turned his head and hit with his shoulder. It was a hard hit by an over zealous rookie who plays pedal to the metal. Vacarro will learn in time how to get a little more control of his body and when to recognize when the QB starts to slide you pull up as best you can. He got flaged and it cost us 15. He'll learn. Besides, a play like that makes the QB think twice about running when he isn't a running QB.

It's the read-option offense ... if they're gonna' have the QB's running the ball, they gotta' let the defenses stop 'em ... NFL don't want a bunch of RGIII's on their hands, it's bad for business, :neutral:.

It was a cheap shot, even if it were not intended...

But I like the kid's aggressiveness and it set the tone for the Saints defense...

Really wanted Ogletree, and it's early, but at least this isn't like when I wanted Matthews and got Ohio State Bow Tie wearing Jenkins...

I watched the game with a bunch of Falcons fans and they were upset. But after multiple replays they ALL agreed, hey what was Vaccaro to do. He was already going in to make the tackle and Matt slid just before the contact. It was a bang bang play. Should Vaccaro have been flagged? Yes. Was it dirty? Not sure. Judging by the play, it happened so fast that he just committed with his follow through.

I put more blame on Matt though, if your gonna slide get down sooner to protect yourself. Drew ran once and slide with no defender within 10 yards. Protect yourself Matt and stop trying to squeak out every yard.

Yeah I saw that. The Hit by Kenny was a PF, and it should have been.

The other one was during a sack. Since when can't you drive the QB of the opponent into the ground during a sack?

I woyldn't call it a cheap shot, but it was a PF per the rules, and he shouldn't have done it.

I consider a cheap shot something like intentionally taking a guys knees out on the line.

A cheap shot? God people sound like girls who never played the game before. Matt slid late as hell. They were going down simultaneously. Gtfoh. The same people that think Goodell is emasculating football are the same people saying dumb things like this. This is ridiculous.

Peyton Manning was notorious for trying to squeeze out every last inch and basically crawl into the slide for a couple more yards. Either go down immediately or be prepared to get nailed penalty or no penalty.

I think the NFL changed the rule because of him that you are down where you start but not sure. Defenders should not have to pull back the second they go into the motion is how I see it. 30 degree angle or 5 degrees with the ground it should not matter. Until you are on the ground it's open season on the QB.

To say if the Penalty on Vaccaro was warranted or not, I dunno.

The thing about that play was the fact both the dive and slid almost happened at the same time, you can tell that Vaccaro tried to pull back, which is why he never completely slammed the living hell out of Ryan.

What kind of bothers me about it though is Daunte Whitner of the 49ers is quite famous for plays like this and he never gets flagged for it, if be on QB or anyone else.

I only saw the first one - Vaccaro flagged for 15. I do think the ref has to throw the flag there, because Roger would fire them if they didn't.

Was it a cheap shot? No. Not on this or any other planet. It's FOOTBALL, or at least it is for now...

He got flagged for it. Thats what happens. Roddy Whites constant push offs are just as cheap as far as sportsmanship goes. I also give Kenny a pass because he is a rookie. The rest of the hits were legit and Ryan got what he deserved. Not our fault his line cannot protect an STD.
I have a feeling behind that line Ryan won't last half the season.

I couldnt see who it was but I saw one of our defenders flat out stop to a stand still to keep from hitting Ryan, he was right in his face and Ryan still had the ball. Had he kept going Ryan would have been crushed and it would have been legal.
These rules are making these defenders scared to do their jobs.
Seriously our guy just ran up to him and stopped right in his face and just threw his arms up like he was trying to scare him. It was actuallly kind of funny.

I loved it, I thought that hit set the tone. That told every hey this isn't the same D as last year, you're not just going to do what you want there. It was worth the 15 yards.

Now if he does it again I might be upset. But at that moment that is something that needed to be done.

It wasn't a "cheap shot" ....... Ryan slid late and K-Vac was at full throttle 2 steps away when he did.

He didn't blow him up Kenny actually turned a little and hit him with his back if I recall.

How would I feel if it was? Keep holding my front 7..... It's going to cost you.

I remember the flag, but not the hit ... probably because it was no big deal and an "OHSA" (Occupational Health & Safety Administration) call, they're just covering their arses and throwing a flag to make it look like they care about player safety ...

I'm sure the other play the failcon fans are talking about is the 1 arm almost close-line sack by Hicks. It was beautiful! Skid Britches looked like he was trying to jump over someone and Hicks caught him right across the chest with one arm and it looked like a WWE take down. I think it looked worse than it actually was.
