Is this for real?

When I saw the hit in the game I was angry because it was blatant enough to draw a flag and that is enough to get my back up. Having said that, it was a decent enough lick that it made Ryan think for the rest of the game.

Goodell sees fit to fine someone for that? For THAT? What next? Zach Strief to pay $20,000 for the numerous False Start penalties???

Is there a consistency on fines though? Is there something that says if you get called for unnecessary roughness for hitting a sliding QB you always get fined 8k? Or is it discretionary depending on the level of the hit as decided by the league? If that's the case then the fines system is just BS.

What a crock? That hit (he lead with his back) set the tone for the game. Matty Ice Melt ran only once more after that play the rest of the game. Hopefully some veterans or Rob Ryan picks up the tab. Why oh why is Goodell still around

Questionable. Even the commentators said it was a late slide by Ryan.

Flag is probably deserved, but the fine is aguable at least.

If he had looked apologetic, he may have gotten away with only a flag. It's hard-hitting, high-intensity football between bitter rivals, but we must show a measure of class at the end of a hit like that.

I feared for Drew after that crack on Ryan.

It sure served a purpose and was worth more than the fine with respect to Ryan's apprehension.

I think its the level of the hit correlated with a % of the players salary that determines the amount fined.

I'm seeing a total lack of consistency in these fines and wonder how much Vaccaro's fine has to do with the fact he plays for the Saints ... honestly.

Clay Matthews (GB) talks all week about hitting the QB in the read option, then horsecollars Kaepernick (SF) to the ground after he's out-of-bounds. Any fine yet? At least Vaccaro's actions can't be considered premeditated.

Why, is Matthews (GB) described as "an aggressive player who plays with passion" when he does something like this and other players get fined?

I'm sorry, football is a gladiator-sport played by men & you're gonna' have some physical contact. If you're gonna' fine one, fine 'em all ... and then go out and get 'em some flags to hang from their belts, :neutral: ... this is gettin' out of hand, and I'm not talking about the late hits, those have been around forever.

Just saw the Matthews hit on NFLN, that was 10 Xs worse than what Vacccaro or Suh did, way to not show any prejudice for the Packers there Goodell, you jack hole

The sad part is the nfl can and will do whatever they want. If it wasn't for my love for the sport and the Saints, I seriously would have absolutely nothing to do with the nfl after all that bull**** with the bounty program.

We should be thankful it's only $8,000 and not more or worse a suspension... The way Roger works, I wouldn't have been surprised to see him try to suspend K.V. for 4-8 games :rolleyes:

It was a cheap shot. He deserved the fine. But... after that Atlanta didn't score another point until the 4th quarter. So I'd say it was money well spent.

It was a late hit and deserved a flag and maybe a fine but I don't think it was dirty. I do think he wanted to make Skids think about running near him again. He was probably waiting for a chance to nail him. But I don't think he meant to injure Ryan. Just a stupid rookie mistake.
