What we can do to better our Offense
First and foremost , NO I don't think Sean Payton and Drew Brees need any insight from a fan , but as a longtime football player and defender I do notice a few things that may help us clean a few things up ...
1. Tempo : Drew looked like Favre all game except for 2 Drives , both crucial plays and both were run giving the defense very little time to adjust. Graham was wide open thanks to an Audible , and the Bucs were lax and vanilla on the last Drive with Drew Delivering a Laser to Colston ... That came with no time outs in the hurry up ... As the season bares on I expect us to kick in high gear. We have weapons let's not give the defense all day to fully figure out how they're going to defend them ! 2. Cut Blocking : As a NT , DE , 3 technique , Tilt , and in my collegic days OLB I dominated with physicality. Teams had no answer for my style of play , one year we ran into an unknown undersized team ... They averaged just above 6 feet on the line , sliced us up on the ground for 400 yards . Plain and simple if your o line can't sustain blocks due to size disadvantages and lack of talent a cut blocking scheme eliminates immediate pressure , and the offensive blockers always win their 1 on 1 at least long enough for the backs to be long gone. As the game wears on , defenders have to defend the low block , get up and chase the play down. By the 4th it's all but over ... Packer sweeps , 65 toss power trap , old school set the edge , clear the path , get a convoy and run like hell. It also leaves cutback lanes wide open... I'd like to see Sproles get a nasty cut back lane wide open ... |
You Can't Say Impossible without first saying Im Possible ...

Re: What we can do to better our Offense
This year?!? Not gonna happen...these are your New Orleans Saints...
We're living with the consequences of the Brees Contract and if Jahri Evans and Ben Grubbs don't get it together, that'll be cap numbers of $17,400,000usd (Brees), $6,740,000usd (Evans), and $4,300,000usd (Grubbs) tied up in a disappointing, mediocre offense for 2013 season... Not to mention difficult decision(s) for 2014 with $18,400,000usd (Brees), $11,000,000usd (Evans), and $9,100,000usd (Grubbs) due to hit the salary cap... The only improvements we could hope to see would be that Armstead somehow overtakes a Charlie Brown who made of joke effort to tackle Mason Foster during the Jordan Jefferson class interception last week and Bryce Harris can turn in better, effective results in replacement of the Clod-Hopper at Right Tackle |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

What can we do to better our offense?
I'll leave it in the hands of Payton/Brees, besides there is nothing that I could suggest that they don't already know and are probably already working on... |

Re: What we can do to better our Offense
Our offense will be fine...
you forget there are teams like the Jets/Jags who can barely score field goals. |
