Drew Brees 2013
This isn't one of those the sky is falling threads. That said...
Has anyone else started cringing when Drew throws the ball? He looks shaky and not as sharp as he use to be. Any legitimate concerns or have we just become too spoiled to his Hall of Fame ways? |

I do cringe however, when I see those little shuttle passes like he threw yesterday. I had to have CPR done on me after that little toss. |
Re: Drew Brees 2013
Some of those passes to Graham and Sproles where on point, but I think he's just as unsure of his o line as everyone else is.
|
Re: Drew Brees 2013
He has taken a few good licks this season.. May be a little fear that he is going to get nailed as soon as he releases.
|
Re: Drew Brees 2013
I worry every time he has to go through a progression. It's like the middle tier of the defense becomes invisible to him after the snap. I also anticipate an underthrow on any pass over 20 yards.

Re: Drew Brees 2013
I think its the hits he's taken. Any QB that starts thinking..."oh ****, gotta hurry" is going to play a little less comfortable. More reason to get that running game going so teams can stop pinning their ears back and gunning for Drew.

Re: Drew Brees 2013
This is why we need the run game so badly. All this throwing, streaks, breaking passing records and piling up yards and all that stuff is fun, but we really need the run game to extend the life of Brees' arm, long term. Elway won a Super Bowl at 39, and thanks to advances in sports medicine athletes can go even longer today, look at Favre etc. so you cannot say that the prospect of Brees even at 40 or beyond is not viable. But Elway had a phenomenal running game in those late years, when the Broncos were a perennial contender... In the earlier years when it was all on his shoulders to be the hero, running around the field in a pass-happy offense, those were the years the Broncos lost.

Yep.

Re: Drew Brees 2013
I still get that excited feeling every time he drops back.
Look, I am under no delusions that he is playing as well as he did in 2009 or 2011. His release doesn't seem as quick and he looks like he is feeling pressured even sometimes when he's not. But he is still freaking Drew Brees man. Where would we be without him? Once the offensive line gets it together and we get a little better in the run game (and I 100% believe these things will happen, it's just a matter of time) he'll start looking like the unstoppable Drew Brees we know. |
Re: Drew Brees 2013
Yea, but the Aston Martin has dust on the dash so I am going to ride my bike.

Re: Drew Brees 2013
Brees is under way more pressure this year, that is the main difference. His long balls have looked a little short at times, but give him time and he is still awesome.

Re: Drew Brees 2013
Yes, I can readily admit that there are times where brees is winding up I'm a little scared but it's more of an excited scared. I came to grips a long time ago that he has a little favre in him (ex. throwing a jump ball to our shortest wideout lance moore which was an int yesterday) but this is one of the main reasons I love him. He gives his guys an opportunity to make plays. It's just sometimes the wrong guy makes the play.
At the end of the day, I'd still rather have him over anyone else in the league including aaron rodgers. |

Anyways, as many are pointing out - the O-line is in a bad way this year. One consequence of is Drew Brees getting licked (more). Another is that he is in "greater hurry up release" (for want of a better grammar). |
Re: Drew Brees 2013
Are we not?

We barely have the salary cap to afford two bags of Fritos and a Barq's. And, based on a projected 20-32 draft position, it will be highly doubtful that a "Brees" quality college passer will be available even if we could afford to keep 30% of the cap space dedicated to one position, especially when only 1 player would ever see the field. |

Re: Drew Brees 2013
I think it has to do with his confidence in the o-line. He's taken some big hits so I think he's feeling pressure, making snap judgements when he doesn't have to leading to some poor decisions, like the pass to Mason Foster last week and then going through his throwing technique quicker than required leading to under throwing his receivers on long passes.
(I re-watched the Bucs game and that pass was to Foster, it wasn't a bad pass to someone else) If the o-line gets better then I think he'll settle down. |
Re: Drew Brees 2013
No. Not at all.
You're crazy |
