That game....heck, even that moment (the blocked punt) shifted the direction of expectations for the Saints. No longer was the team going to be content with 8-8 seasons year after year. While things weren't always perfect after that day, and the Saints would make plenty of mistakes afterwards.....but one thing was crystal clear: the culture had changed. It was evident even in the next week, in a road game against Carolina. The Saints ultimately ended up losing, but they fought, scratched, and battled the entire game to where I remember not even being angry after the loss. I knew they gave their all, and I specifically remember Troy Aikman correctly predicting that "these Saints are gonna win a lot of ball games this season", even when it was obvious they were gonna fall short on that day. |
