Re: Seven Years Ago Today
And aside from the football aspect of it, I think the event that was the MNF game, being nationally televised on prime time, it told the country "New Orleans is back", and people around the country and the world saw New Orleans again as a world-class tourist destination.
For a year, most (if not all) the pictures people around the world saw, were of devastation. And then, what they see, is the unveiling of this shiny golden dome. That was the moment that told me New Orleans was back; that to me, really is the moment that symbolized the rebirth of the City of New Orleans. Now, football and the Saints, that is as much a part of New Orleans as gumbo, Jazz, and Mardi Gras. That is ingrained in the city's soul. Knowing that the Saints were going to stay gave people hope. That Gleason play, that gave the city its soul back. Sorry, I need to go get this thing out of my eye. |
