Dick King MMQB 9/30/13

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Why blitz? The Falcons sacked him 5 times, if we're getting pressure with a four man rush then the rest can be used to cover/contain when he tries to run...

Intimidation factor. You can always back off later but early in the game it sets the tone. Especially if you can hit him a couple times. Get that adrenaline going.

What if the blitz doesn't get there and he hits a big pass or two? Then they put us on our heels fast, you only blitz if your Line isn't getting pressure

I will re-watch the game, but I think I saw the defense line up in the nickle package about 70% of the time tonight.

Pressure from up front caused confusion in the Miami passing game with that many D-backs in coverage.

We gave up some long runs, but the players made tackles at first contact.

Whoa Nellie! I'm buying into Rob Ryan. Our Defensive players have their receipts already!

Yep. Lots and lots of three-safety stuff with Vaccaro creeping around the line of scrimmage. I was slightly disappointed in the linebackers against the run but they didn't give up any huge killer plays there. Good performance by the defense overall.

Don't forget that Lofton was the LB that caused the fumble.
