Phins Fans

I'm always curious how opposing team fans handle themselves in the Dome of all Domes.

For the most part I thought the Phins fans were quiet almost sleep walking. We did have 4 of them a few rows down from us. One was wearing a silly "Nacho Libre" Mexican type Dolphins mask. I'm not sure how he could put up with that for long.

These 4 just had to jump up and down and yell and scream after each run whether it was -1 yards or 15 yards. What that was about I have no clue.

And when the Dolphins did seem to make a first down the female of the group would jump up and clap. Seemed strange but she would do it with her elbows straight. At first I thought it was a Dolphin clap but maybe she likes a soccer team named the Seals. It was a bit annoying actually.

Anyway, they high tailed it in the 4th Q before I could give them sympathy hugs.

How did you enjoy the visitors?

One thing I learned from drinking. You should always go Christmas caroling with a group. Oh, and always in mid-December.

Re: Phins Fans

There were none in my area. I think most of the miami fans were in the terrace. The ones I saw on Bourbon Street after the game seemed to be taking it well, and our fans, with a very few aberrant exceptions, (I saw one girl taunting their fans from a balcony) were courteous and friendly to them or left them alone entirely.

Being from DC the only Saints games I get to go to are away games, DC, Philly, and NY/NJ. You have to be careful as an away fan specially when you wear the Black and Gold. DC is okay and so is NY but Philly is a different story you can get seriously hurt there. Not sure what the Fins fans were doing but I try to remain low key out there and not cause any unnecessary attention. But seriously never go to Philly with a Saints shirt on and if we are winning God Help You!

The more folks we get on the band wagon increases the likely hood of an arse hole in there somewhere.

Re: Phins Fans

I had these weird pseudo-wigger Dolphins fans behind me, with a cheap Dolphin flag and wife beater tank tops and arms full of Kapernick/Hernandez style tattoos, and they were kind of obnoxious. But they SHUT UP quick after the Sproles "3rd and 20" and got reeeeeeeal quiet once our offense started to really get in gear.

I could also tell that the Fins fans were used to games where, it's not sold out, nobody cares, there's rows of empty rows around you and you just find an empty spot and sit where ever you want, like a high school game...they didn't seem to have a clue that the Dome is SOLD OUT for years straight and that the SAME people sit in the SAME SEATS every week, that you have a seat and row number on your ticket and THIS is your spot. They were all in the wrong seats, the wrong rows and stuff, all around us, at the beginning of the game. Not that they were doing it to be obnoxious, but maybe they can't read numbers on tickets, I dunno. But I think it had more to do with being used to a much emptier stadium, where you just roll in and sit where ever you feel like.

Uhm... I didn't see many Saints fans cheering our -1 yard runs.

You mean jumping.... but I see your point.
A long time season ticket holder here, I've sat in many parts of the dome. I only make it to 3 games a year now.

Opposing fans sometimes come and go crazy over nothing at all. They're just provoking people around them mostly. I've run into 49er and Bears fans in front of my seats that made hey over anything just start an argument or provoke trouble. What made them more annoying is they were in the lower deck on the 50 yard line, a place where there is no trouble. Awkward.

We usually kill them with kindness actually talking to them and buying them a beer. 90% of the time that works and they end up being cool. If that doesn't work and they continue to be a-holes, someone in the section always goes to section security/escorts who will come down and have a chat. If they go nuts, security escort them from the section in 2 seconds flat. Never fails. Upper deck is a little hairier and much less predictable, but fun nonetheless.

I celebrate 1 yard runs and smaller things with some claps and a "come on Saints." Never see me jump for joy unless it's 4 and 1 and we get the 1 yard we needed (and then it only when we win a game over that 1 yard.)

So now there's a protocol to enjoy games?

Yeah I go crazy if we make a 4th and 1. I wasn't upset at them as they seemed pretty cool and fandom. Just got a kick out of the lady not realizing that going backwards on a run play is a bad thing.
