Do the Saints Have the Loudest Stadium in the NFL?
It’s the bye week, so time to take a break from the normal routine a bit and ask some interesting questions about the New Orleans Saints. For one, is the Mercedes-Benz Superdome the loudest stadium in the NFL?
Fans are well aware of the noise the Seattle Seahawks make each time they play at home, and just this past weekend the Kansas City Chiefs broke a noise record at Arrowhead Stadium. While that’s great, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says he knows the Saints have the loudest stadium per Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com: “We don’t need the Guinness Book of World Records to tell us that we are the loudest stadium. We already know that we are.” – Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, on the recent “official” world record of 137.5 decibels set by Kansas City Chiefs fans at Arrowhead Stadium for loudest outdoor stadium. While the other teams are fighting to have the loudest outdoor stadium, we’re inclined to agree with Loomis—there is no louder stadium in the NFL than the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. All domes are loud, but the Saints seem to bring it the most as referenced by many accounts from players themselves. What do you think? Do the Saints have the loudest stadium in the NFL? Do the Saints Have the Loudest Stadium in the NFL? |

Preach on my brother, preach on. I've felt the same way for quite some time and the only reason Seattle gets mentioned is due to the architecture of the stadium |

No their are several outdoor venues that have been clocked at higher decibles than ours ever has. KC and Seattle just off the top of our head.

Re: Do the Saints Have the Loudest Stadium in the NFL?
The people who want to prove they are the loudest, make the extra effort to measure and prove they are the loudest. As far as I'm aware, the Saints have never seriously measured or attempted to prove anything or even cared about decibel levels other than, does it disrupt the other team. And does it sell beer, when people get hoarse, LOL.
Any loud crowd can clock a peak decibel reading, that's up there in the 125+ dB range, if you are sitting there with the decibel meter pointed two feet away from the crowd, because you are trying deliberately to force it and get the "loudest ever" reading. These things are easy to manipulate, and get a peak number that is really high up there, for a fraction of a second. But that's completely different from a sustained noise level, or a consistent, week in and week out level of noise and disruption to the other team. That's why I put greater stock in what the players say, because they are the ones who deal with it, not some nerd sitting there with a sound meter trying to manipulate and get the highest reading he can, for his PR boss to make a press release. And the players seem to say with great consistency that the Superdome is always considered among the loudest and most difficult places to play. So that's good enough for me. |

Those stadiums can be loud at times but the dome stays rockin all game long!

The dome was measured at 102 at one point in the NFCCG. They never went back to the dude with the meter and I have never seen it since.

If you could get the spoiled-ass club-seat dwellers to open their mouths for more than a yawn, we might have something.
I sat down there a couple years back and if I stood up to tell, I was promptly asked to sit down and "act civilized". Alaska |
